General Gaming / A Little Bit of Nintendo Trivia
« on: March 24, 2003, 07:38:02 PM »
I don't want to start one of those 200+ post Trivia threads, but I thought this might be something interesting very few people know about.

What home console system did Nintendo make before the NES/Famicom?

Go nuts.

Nintendo Gaming / Zelda game after windwaker
« on: February 07, 2003, 05:53:02 PM »
Hmmm . . . as long as it's still Zelda from Miyamoto, I think it'll be great.

However, I don't think that Nintendo should release a realistic looking Zelda game until the next-generation system.  One reason is that the graphics could be greatly improved over what we sat at SpaceWorld 2000, which I think we all agree was pretty fantastic itself.  Another is that it could be optimized again to improve upon many other aspects, such as level design, sound, and length of the adventure.  One thing I'm really hoping for is a long Zelda game, at least longer than Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask.

I think just Nintendo is cruel to Europe/Australia, or at least the most cruel.  It takes them almost 6 months after the U.S. release to localize a game for European launch.  Microsoft and Sony do have long wait times for European releases, but not nearly as long as Nintendo.  I think that's one reason why Nintendo isn't doing stronger in those regions.  It's one of the many things Nintendo could improve upon to raise sales in those regions.

Hmm, I don't think so.  Last I heard, Nintendo was actually going to sell the disc separately for those who didn't preorder it in the U.S. and Japan, but I think that's what they're also planning for Europe.  Sorry, no pre-order Zelda bonus disc for Europe.

You could always get a bunch of people to write a petition, but I don't know if that'll work or no (probably not, but it's worth a shot).

Nintendo Gaming / Is FF12 coming to GameCube? (discussion/debate)
« on: February 07, 2003, 05:30:09 PM »
I've learned something from all the recent rumors:  the rumor is probably false, but don't be surprised if it's true.

Also, I don't think that 1 PS2 disc equals 3 - 4 GODs.  The PS2 and GameCube use different compression algorithms (though the GameCube is supposed to have better and more efficient programming toolkits), and have two completely different formats.  Just because the GOD has about 1.9GB per disc amd the PS2 disc has about 4.1GB per disc (not exactly sure abou this number) doesn't mean that the PS@ can have 2x times as much game as the GameCube.

Nintendo Gaming / Ikaruga Hype Thread
« on: February 07, 2003, 05:07:57 PM »
I'm very much looking forward to this game.  I haven't played a great 2D vertical shooter since the SNES days, so I'm very excited about Ikaruga.  Also, since Treasure announced that the U.S. version of Ikaruga will only be $39.99 instead of the usual MSRP of $49.99, that's just icing on the cake . . . which I'll get to blow up with some sort of ultra-destructive weapon that destroys everything on the screen.

Nintendo Gaming / Online game Ideas?
« on: February 07, 2003, 05:02:18 PM »
I've actually got 2 ideas, one of which will almost definitely not happen.

One  -  A full out Wars game made specifically for te GameCube.  Great graphics, great gameplay, items, buildings and whatnot, and most importantly a robust and entertaining online multiplayer option.  I can just imagine and huge 3D world, tons of levels, units, extras and such, and then taking that online to battle others would be great.  I'd spend a great deal of time playing it, if it weren't nonexistant.

Two  -  This could be used with any type of game.  The ability to use a device or cable through one of the GCN high-speed ports to connect with a PC or Mac (preferably both) which allows you to create levels, items, and characters to add with a game (a la NeverWinter Nights).  You could then store them on the PC or Mac hard drive, and load it into the game's RAM whenever you want to play it.  This could be used with anything, even to make your own games (though they may be small).  Sort of like a $50 or $100 version of a debug kit.
