Animal Crossing New Leaf Getting An Amiibo Update
« on: July 20, 2016, 03:25:05 AM »

One of the best selling 3DS titles is going to grow like the weeds in the village.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/43043/animal-crossing-new-leaf-getting-an-amiibo-update

New Leaf is going to stay fresh this fall with new amiibo card and figure support.

Nintendo of Europe has confirmed the additions will come to the 2013 release this fall in a free update. The Animal Crossing cards and figures will add their respective characters into the game, as well as select amiibo such as Callie and Marie.

The Animal Crossing mobile title announced during the April financial results period promised connectivity to main series Animal Crossing games ("Nintendo will design Animal Crossing for mobile so that it will be connected with the world of Animal Crossing for dedicated gaming systems") but it is not clear if this update will make New Leaf the game in question.

Fantastic to hear that New Leaf will be updated with Amiibo support - all of those Animal Crossing cards and figures that I've been collecting might actually get some use now, instead of being purely for display purposes. Very cool!  Doesn't sound like NoA has confirmed it's coming here yet, but surely that will happen right?

(Caveat: We do have that Wii U game that uses Animal Crossing Amiibo. It's barely a game though, so this is the first time that there is a meaningful use for me.)

Hmmm. Interesting. I'm curious to see how this update will work and what it will do. I've been trying to figure out what Nintendo might do for A.C. Amiibo integration in the next Animal Crossing and I haven't really thought of any major uses besides being able to summon the villagers you want to move in or have them visit a shop but that also detracts a bit from the Animal Crossing idea of not knowing what kind of villagers will arrive and move into your town and meeting the different personalities so I wasn't sure that would be the right kind of integration.

I will also counter ejamer a bit more to remind him that Happy Home Designer uses the Amiibo cards but not the Amiibo figures and that HHD allows you to bring these characters in the game and get or unlock a furniture item from them according to the descriptions on the back of the packaging. Not sure how it works since I haven't played HHD. I've just acquired over 350 of the Amiibo cards.  :P

Didn't forget, didn't care.
Happy Home Designer sounds even worse than Amiibo Festival.   :P:

I would buy my first amiibo if it meant I could lock in my boys Vladimir and Rasher from moving away.

Amiibo Festival wasn't a bad game, though the Amiibo function was pretty useless (essentially it just picked the avatar you used in the mini-games). Happy Home Designer sucks though, it's pretty much just the home arranging part of the Animal Crossing games and I always hate that part.

If only they had done this from the start like they should have. I'm sure the Animal Crossing amiibo line would have still been a disaster (at least as far as the figures are concerned), but they could have probably at least saved themselves the embarrassment of retailers almost literally having to give them away now.

Amiibo Festival is an ok game. Wasn't worth it at $60 but you're a fool if you buy it at that price nowadays. It's a game that surprisingly does well on Let's Plays and as a general change of pace party game. A more aggressive company would have probably pushed it as a Freemium game with amiibo purchases being the barrier of entry.

Wow interesting! That is pretty cool and now my cards don't feel as useless. But what does this mean for my complete item catalog in New Leaf...

Do you get to place their houses? That's the feature I really wanted.
