yeah, plus its pretty easy to fix yourself. It was in 2003 when i ordered a replacement part for my NES. Since then it works great, except now Tengen style games don't work.

Nintendo is great for fixing consoles. Hell, Nintendo was still letting people send in NES's to be repaired until 2007. 13 years after the final NES came out and they were still willing to fix systems for people.

I heard the only reason they stopped doing that was because of the inevitable shortage of NES parts.

It's astonishing how your ideas continually continue to get worse and worse. You'd think there would be some sort of improvement or even a plateau after all these years, but you just seem to keep striving to think of the worst idea of all-time.

I like the idea...I know it's probably impractical, but I always thought that was one of the cooler features of the Dreamcast.

i didn't come up with the touch screen button idea

thats was pre-revolution days someone mentioned that.

I think it would be cool if there was a touch screen in the controller, then developers could handle menu systems outside of the game which saves buttons.
So, i added it, but then i saw the gold potential of a semi handheld device. Turn it sideways and its also a GAMEBOY mini. Actually considering the mini they could probably make a screen in color for cheap. pre-revolution/wii days it would have been a wavebird with a screen.

Ya know, I think Nintendo needs to go the route of Sony's integration of "trophies" for their next console.  But instead of trophies, use the one item that symbolizes greatness in Mario games -- the power star.

Nintendo could classify "achievements" in games through the use of stars.

Bronze stars
Silver stars
Gold stars
Grand/Platinum/Green stars

It would give the online infrastructure a very "Nintendo" styled feel.  I'm sure game devs would immediately latch on to this just as they have the trophy system set in place on Sony's system.

Plus, it'd be really cool to converse with other Nintendo console owners, too. "Hey, man, how many stars do you have?!" "Did you unlock the two gold stars in the new Prince of Persia game?!" Or something of that nature... you know what I mean.

Honestly, I just started playing with Achievements (Steam) and it's been pretty fun knowing I'm trying to do certain things or do them a certain way as it gives me a secondary and very optional challenge to beat while playing.

Some are things I wouldn't have really thought to do on my own, some are things I would've done anyway and some are just stupid out of the way task that have no effect on the game.

If they did do an awards system, I hope those awards convert into some sort of Secondary Club Points reward system. Maybe used towards for DLC or other game specific perks.

I'm not a big fan of achievements, at least not how they're incorporated in most games.

"Star get!" is what I'm shooting for. 

But yes, incorporate some sort of Club Nintendo feature to go along with playing to obtain unlockable "stars" in games.  Maybe add coins to your Club Nintendo account? There's lots of possibilities, really.

I think a small low-res color screen is possible, but I doubt they could use a touch screen without making the controller too expensive.  I also don't see much of an advantage to a touch screen, since it would require taking yours eyes off the screen for too long to do anything, and it would require taking your hand off the controller or at least move it a considerable distance. 

I could see a small regular screen being useful though, especially if it had two soft buttons and an "ok" button like a cell phone.  For instance it could display secret information in a multi-player game, be used to display your inventory (like one of the DS screens often is used for now), and so on. 

If the wii2 is using bluetooth it is unlikely that there is enough bandwidth to show live video of any quality.  The images would either need to be loaded into the remote's memory early on, or it would need to be small, fairly simple images (like icons) with few colors that can be sent over one-at-a-time when they are needed.  On the other hand, if the wii2 ends up using wireless USB instead then the bandwidth would probably be enough to stream live video with the sort of low resolution you would see on such a screen.

Controllers with touch screens would be cool, and I'm sure there are lots of stuff you could do with that. But wouldn't that make the controllers cost like $70-$99 or something? That's the downside.

Well, they'd have a few years to work the cost factors out. If they can make a portable 3D gaming machine at a (presumably) reasonable price, then why not this?

I'm sure Nintendo gets touch screens dirt cheap at this point.

They could cut each DSL/XL Touch screen into 4/8 controller touch screens making them even cheaper per screen.
I see it as possible, but not likely.

besides, wouldn't that be and even bigger drain on the wiimote+ 2.0 battery?

It would make more sense if they just used the NDS (or 3DS) as a controller. BTW, wasn't that something Nintendo said they were going to do anyway at some point? I can almost swear I remember before the Wii came out Nintendo hinting at or outright saying that the NDS would be able to link up to it. So far we haven't seen that, but if we did that could fill in as the touchscreen controller and be more justifiable to purchase than a $100 controller, because the NDS isn't just a controller but also a complete handheld system with a huge library.
