But Halo 2 is still good and you need to reconigze that.

Nintenod just needs to get off their ass and buy friggin rockstar and Square-Enix and Capcom and they willd estroy everything. And they could too, the GBA is pure profit gold mine.

Can we possibly set our sights a bit higher than "Nintenod just needs to get off their ass and buy friggin rockstar" When Nintendo have already said they don't support the use of exploitative violence that Rockstar uses in GTA.

Edit & clarification / I do think it's entirely possible for Nintendo to make adult games and/or or driving games in the GTA style, but highly doubt any violence would be dumb exploitative stuff, it would be in the context of the game. The depiction of violence in itself is not a bad thing, in fact it is often necessary.

Nintendo Gaming / Major Konami announcement tomorow!?
« on: April 13, 2003, 06:58:41 AM »
You are bickering about a DDR game when we get Metal Gear Solid? I think we get the better end of the deal.

Now, if you were talking about a SH3 or Castlevania port, I would agree.

Nintendo Gaming / RE's exclusitivity status
« on: April 13, 2003, 06:54:25 AM »
I hear you. I bought my GameCube because of the Resident Evil exclusivity deal. I was disappointed to find that only 1 and 0 were re-makes, and that 2 and 3 were going to be sold full price. I actually believed Capcom when they told us that they wanted all the games in the Resident Evil series to  be on the one platform

I have been disappointed by the lack of adult games on the GameCube. The loss of the Resident Evil series (I'll believe it's ending with 4 when I see it) and less Capcom games in general would mean that the GameCube 2 would be a less interesting proposition for me.

The latest rumours emanating from Capcom aren't good news for the GameCube any way you look at it. Although they made a partial retraction, they didn't retract the news that Capcom were considering withdrawing support from the Cube, and the fact is that PS2 and XBox owners are now a lot less interested in buying a GameCube for Resident Evil 4, because they are more confident that it will be a timed exclusive rather than a total exclusive. I too now think that the likely-hood of Resident Evil 4 finishing up on other platforms at some stage has increased and Resident Evil 4 "Director's cut" will possibly wind up on the next generation of XBox and/or PS2 in 2005.

I hope Nintendo take out another deal with Capom, I do feel the Resident Evil series is important if they continue to be serious about attracting more adult gamers.

Some denial. From IGN - http://cube.ign.com/articles/392/392289p1.html

(One line from article, fair use) We'll point out that this statement doesn't really counter the points brought up by the Nikkei article.

Nintendo Gaming / So what's up with Capcom?
« on: April 05, 2003, 03:41:01 AM »
I don't think Capcom's "retraction" was all that forceful. I am worried for the Cube, I do think it need adult games, and securing the Resident Evil series kept a lot of their adult gamers happy. That's why I bought my cube, and Capcom said at the time they wanted all the games in the series on the one platform.

I couldn't care less about PN03, for all the hype, that game always looked pretty shallow. I do hope that Killer 7 and Dead Phoenix will turn out well however.

If Nintendo went to some effort to secure the Resident Evil series, thus wooing over older gamers like myself, first time Nintendo buyers, just to let it drop and waste all the work they did.....I don't see how that's a positive thing. The old guard of Nintendo fans just don't seem to accept that there is now a growing percentage of Nintendo gamers who's primary reason for buying Nintendo are their adult games that they have produced or secured; Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness, Metroid, and the next Metal Gear Solid. It's kind of annoying to see Nintendo go to so much trouble to bring the sector of gamers over to the Cube, only to have people say "Who cares, we know that Nintendo owners only enjoy Nintendo first party." Nope, I bought my Cube to play Resident Evil, and so did a lot of other people I know from the Resident Evil community. That franchise is important to us.

That's exactly what I thought.

Originally, PN03 was sounding like a "Devil May Cry" in space, but was changed for that exact reason. I ask you, would a "Devil May Cry" clone set in space have been such a bad thing?

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo Fans vs. the Third Parties
« on: March 27, 2003, 06:08:35 AM »
My problem with a lot of recent third party games for the 'cube is that they don't interest me. We have Disney sports (gee, thanks Konami) we have Piglet's big Adventure and (soon) The Hobbit. We have just about every Super Hero game under the Sun.

I want more third party games on the 'cube. If the third parties make them, I'll buy them. But I like racing games, FPS, adventure, Survival Horror, that sort of thing. Whereas a lot of third party games for the cube seem to be directed at a younger demographic.

Game such as Splinter Cell, Burnout and so on, I will support those games. There just aren't enough of them.

Edit / I do enjoy games like SMB, which is well done and appeals to all-ages.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo bring about PGC's downfall
« on: March 27, 2003, 06:01:56 AM »
Yeah, I know what you mean. The aussie forums are great, but not so busy, and the international forums where I usually hang out are just about exploding with Zelda topics. I just got my hands on Resident Evil 0 for Pete's sakes.

There was a comic on Penny Arcade about having to wait five months between Metroid - Zelda. But the last game I bought for the 'cube that I really felt was worth $100 was Pikmin back in October. I did try Mario Sunshine but I didn't really find it to be that good.

At least we get V-Rally, here's hoping it's good. It would be good if Nintendo could find some way to shorten these delays between NTSC>>Europe>>Rest of the world.

Bah.

I agree as well, an original space shooter, with a better story and cut scenes, would be more fun.

Nintendo Gaming / New Racing game
« on: March 19, 2003, 07:21:04 PM »
I wish Nintendo would take an interest in Ratbag games....they make both realistic (dirt track) and arcade sytle racers that get great reviews and are are much under-rated imo. I do think we need more quality realistic racers on the Cube, and a Power Slide game on the Cube would be phenomenal.

Nintendo Gaming / WaveBird Suggestion
« on: March 19, 2003, 07:12:41 PM »
I think having a rumble feature in the wavebird is a terrible idea. That would make it like the Logitech wireless controller for the PS2. Twice the batteries (and it eats 'em up) dodgy signal, over three times heavier. Be careful what you wish for.

All I want is some extra colours. I think the WaveBird is perfect.

What are they Tael?

I think "finally coming out" is a fair thing to say. We are just getting RE 0, and have a few other big name games like MP launching soon.

Nintendo Gaming / Gamecube Internet
« on: March 13, 2003, 07:31:28 AM »
I would rather play online for free with my PC. A lot of game companies make their game servers free, as do a lot of ISP's as part of their enticement to join.

As for Cube games, I am happy to play mario kart et al with the SP game and friends.

The montly fee with XBox Live might be warrented, but it isn't going to be my online system of choice when I can play better online games on my PC for free.

Oh yeah there is a big thread on this is another forum.

Sorry I guess you need the insider thing to read it. If you don't have it I will just summarise for you that most people seem to be deciding to put up with the problem, although if you have more than one area effected you might be able to return it. Worth a try anyway.

Um, I hope it's ok to link to another forum, just trying to help.

Spot on. You would have to be wearing blinkers not to realise that GTA is marketed towards older children/teens, despite ratings this seems evident.

I read "The Hobbit" as a child. I wouldn't have been twelve when I read the book for the first time.

It is shorter and in some ways an easier read, however I went right on to read the other Lord Of the Rings books.

"Tolkien replied such a story would be much too dark for children."

Well, it was and is a rather dark read I suppose, but times change, and there are a lot of books released each year that could be considered far more disturbing, and they are released into the children's book market.

Lord of the Rings is not uncommonly read by children with decent literacy skills. I expect you are correct when you say they may not understand every facet of it, but it seems to me that is is often one of the first "adult" books that people tell me they read as a child.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo's Strategy is Paying Off
« on: March 01, 2003, 03:23:46 PM »
Books, paintings, Movies, any kind of artistic endeavour or medium is dominated by top-selling mediocre and down right horrible titles.

Which is why publishing houses finance their award winning books via the sales of their best-selling Shiite, why governments fund independent movie houses that make movies that are critically acclaimed but make little money.

PS2 fanatics, who critisise the GameCube for not having any good RPG's, are amazed that Animal Crossing won best RPG....while Nintendo fans lose out in the best platformer to Ratchet and Clank, I fully realise that this doesn't mean must for for the big picture per se, but it's kind of interesting.
