I liked the Snyder Cut, but Army of the Dead was really meh.

I like some zombie movies, but not very many zombie movies are good. The last good piece of Zombie fiction was season one of The Walking Dead, and it was still not as good as the comic. I'd rank Army of the Dead somewhere between Zombieland 2 and Night of the Living Dead 3d(2006). So pretty mediocre.

We're going to play a new version of this game.

In the old version we would substitute an actors other role in another movie and or an approximation of what their character is and use our movie knowledge to solve the movie riddle.

In this version we'll point out how weird a movie is by using critical theory to make the movies sound like the absurdities they are. We'll still do the other thing too.

First Movie
After years a grooming a female senator starts a sexual relationship with a teenager in a priesthood. Another priest follows leads towards uncovering experiments being undertaken by the government.  The teenage priest undertakes a journey to his homeland where he finds that his mother has been kidnapped. He finds her and she dies. He murders a whole village in anger.

NBA2K21 is available to snag for free at the Epic Game Store for a limited time.

Hmmm, missed that issue. That's the time period I used to read Spider-man. That art makes me think of Crystal Pepsi

oh so you caught that a day before I did.

They used to be good at it.

Super Nintendo Switch

Nintendo Super Switch

New Switch is dogshit. I can't believe nobody has set down the execs and explained naming things New to Anglophones is stupid. New Super Mario bros came out 15 years ago.

New Kids on the Block are in their 50s. Donnie Wahlberg is not a kid, and he's not new. He's objectively middle aged. They're just Dudes on the Block now.

Time Bandits - 6.5/10. It's been a long time coming. It was pretty good. I've been meaning to watch it for years, I just never did. It reminded me of Baron Von Munchausen... and I just looked it up and it turns out Terry Gilliam. Which must be why it also reminded me of the Imaginarium of Doctor Pernassus. He's got clear style.

Reminds me of the n64 era. Remember when Sony undercut Nintendo's prices?  n64 games were $59.99 -  $69.99 and Playstation games could be as low as $9.99

I buy some new games when they come out, but 2/3 I buy on sale.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was the Marvel movie that elicited my most emotional reaction. For personal reasons.

Daddy issues?
Because that was a heavy theme of that movie.

You don't have to go in to the personal issues, but you mentioned it, so I thought I'd respond.

The other thing is it hit me differently when I watched it the second time.

I can't watch Lion King anymore either.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was the Marvel movie that elicited my most emotional reaction. For personal reasons.

Right. On one hand It's kind of cool that I am seeing things in 3d wouldn't see before. On the other hand I'm getting tricked! These are 2d things!

I haven't seen the christmas light thing yet. I'll get cr-39 plastic too.

So, I got new glasses this week. I dropped my old glasses and they broke into pieces. I went to the eye doctor and got a new perscription. A weird side effect is I have much weirder stereoscopic vision than I had before. Now anytime I see the color red it looks like it is more 3d then it ever did before.

These images would be flat before. I have perfectly fine near sited vision. When I take my glasses off, they are clear, but they are not 3d. When I wear my old lenses taped into an empty frame still 2d(well less pronounced), yet perfectly clear. If I had my contacts still I'd test those out.

So, I decided to try magic eyes again.

I still can't see magic eyes.

even weirder is some art that I drew. Things I made with intention. Now look totally different.

I really liked the music in the trailer

"Times are hard
You're afraid to pay the fee
So you find yourself somebody
Who can do the job for free
When you need a bit of lovin'
'Cause your man is out of town
That's the time you get me runnin'
And you know I'll be around

I'm a fool to do your dirty work
Oh yeah
I don't wanna do your dirty work
No more
I'm a fool to do your dirty work
Oh yeah"

of course I liked "I started a Joke" by Bee Gees and that didn't make the first Suicide Squad good. WB has great trailers and poorly edited movies. I'd rather see the movie I thought Suicide Squad was going to be when the first trailer dropped. It's even color graded differently. The Ayer cut will probably not happen, but Fandome 2 is coming. There are only so many movies in the DC/WB backlog that could be improved through better editing. If you can do one of those a year it's like releasing a new movie, but not.

I mean that kaiju thing was in the trailer. That just happens to be a really good angle, and the the stylization elevates it.
It also wouldn't be that different than the intro to Guardians of the Galaxy and looks exactly like this Japanese movie:

Spider-man mafia?

As someone who lives in Yuma: When I hear people talk about Chipotle like it's good I giggle a little.

I feel like we got a Batman and Robin version of Mortal Kombat. The Original version was Batman 89 and there still hasn't been a Dark Knight trilogy version of MK.

They should have introduced Cole and Janet Leigh'd him. The birthmark thing is silly. The MK emblem should just be Shang Tsung's seal.

I don't follow what you mean by "Janet Leigh'd him".  Could you elaborate?

I think it could've worked if Cole turned out to be Scorpion or at least the "new" Scorpion.  The final fight scene would've made more sense to have him carry on his ancestor's legacy and defeat Sub-Zero instead of having him pointlessly hit blocks of ice while the deus ex machina saves the day.

I was fine with the birthmark thing.  People in the MK universe have magic powers, but there's no real reason for it (at least to my knowledge).  The mark being tied to it helps put rules to it while also giving the villain a clear marker as to who to go after.  It allowed them to have the movie take place in the "real world" while not having to rewrite too many rules about how things work.

Although, I will say that the fact that the villains can just go to Earth and wreck **** seemingly whenever they please messes with that last point quite a bit.  But I have to assume that if the "tournament" is what would give them control of the earth realm, then Raiden (and the other gods?) can and would just shoo them off if they tried to just "invade".

Psycho spoilers - What Janet Leigh'd means

Janet Leigh played Marion Crane, the main character of psycho. Or so the people going to the movie in the 1960s thought. The movie starts with her. It follows her closely for the first act of the movie. As closely as Joker follows Joaquin Phoenix. She's in almost every shot in the first act. Then Norman Bates murders her. The movie takes its time before it kills her. The camera follows her for 48 minutes.  For the rest of the movie it follows other characters. This was shocking at the time. As far as movie structure goes, it would still be pretty jarring.

Actually upon a further look the poster is a non official poster. Zachary Levi re-tweeted it though.j

As far as tone goes. It reminded me of Goonies. The Fratellis were scary. A murderous mob family that keeps dead bodies in their restaurant freezer and have a deformed man thing chained up in their basement. It's like the kids went into Texas Chainsaw Massacre and ultimately came out with pirate gold.

I like how Sinbad is in this poster, but he isn't listed in the credits. It's like they're nurturing a mandela effect.
