What does the first eShop update of 2012 have in store for Japan?

Unfortunately, the first Nintendo eShop update of 2012 does not offer a whole lot of content for gamers. One title was made available today in Japan. With last week seeing a deluge of content and this being the beginning of the year, this is not surprising. Regardless, here is what gamers in Japan can check out this week:

Virtual Console

Super Mario Bros. (Famicom) – 500 yen

Video Content

As I mentioned above, this week was not a full blown release week on the eShop in Japan. There are a few new streaming videos on the eShop for Ace Combat 3D Cross Rumble (releasing January 12 in Japan) and for the upcoming Kiki Torikku (Listening Trick) for Wii. Kiki Torikku, arriving on January 19 in Japan, comes from the team responsible for the Wario Ware series and has players focus on listening to sounds which are implemented into the gameplay experience.

Like I mentioned last week, the entire Nintendo Direct Conference (over one hour of streaming video) is available on the eShop. Not only that, but several other videos highlighting upcoming titles, such as Shinrei Camera (Ghost Camera) and a fifteen minute video where the producer and a few other members of the Monster Hunter 3 (tri) G team talk about their experiences with the 3DS version of the game.

Software Impressions

For 3DS Ambassadors, downloading the free titles from Nintendo has been a somewhat backwards experience. Players had to go through the previously downloaded title list and navigate through all of their downloaded content to find the titles. For guys like me, people who have around one hundred pieces of software downloaded on their system, it can be time consuming and a little annoying. Thankfully, for the update to Super Mario Bros. on the Japan eShop, players do not have to put forth much effort to get the latest version of the game. When 3DS users boot up the eShop, they are prompted to download the update to the game. The download only takes a few moments and gives players the save state option. Right now, there is no word as to when the update/eShop release of Super Mario Bros. or The Legend of Zelda will arrive outside of Japan.
