Can't read Japanese? Well, that's why you're reading this guide. Can't read the menus? Well, that's why you're reading this section.
Title Screen
When you first play Kyojin no Doshin there are three options on the Title Screen. After you play once and save your game, an additional stats viewer option and a data erasure option becomes available. Furthermore after earning your first monument, a monument view option becomes available.
The original three options are, from the top:
Begin Game
Memory Album (Snapshot Viewer)
Options
After you create a game and earn a monument, the full main menu will appear as follows:
Begin Game
Giant Picture Book (Stats and Graph Viewer)
Monument List
Memory Album (Snapshot Viewer)
Data Erase
Options
The Giant Picture Book shows each days’ stats, and a cumulative graph can be displayed by pressing the A Button and selecting desired entries with further presses of the A Button. The Monument List displays any monuments you’ve earned so far along with appropriate color guides for making new villages. The Memory Album allows you to view any snapshots you’ve captured. Data Erase contains a sub-menu allowing for erasure of either snapshot data or total game data.
Although your personal progression will affect whether the Monument List selection appears, by experimenting a bit you can easily determine what does what. However, for reference, the Monument List choice is written almost entirely in katakana (the simpler, low stroke count character set) with two kanji (the more complex, Chinese derived characters) at the end. The Giant Picture Book choice is written entirely in kanji.
Begin Game will always be the first choice, and Options will always be the last. Data Erase will always be the second from last choice.
Note on Saving/Loading: Kyojin no Doshin automatically saves your game at the end of each island day. However, if you need to cut your day short, you can force save and quit from the Pause Menu (see below). Loading your game is as simple as selecting Begin Game from the Title screen. As only one save game will fit on a memory card, your game will automatically be loaded from wherever you last saved.
Options Menu
The Options screen has three options, from the top:
Sound
Vibration
Object Manipulation (Control) Scheme
Sound and Vibration are self-explanatory. If you have ears to hear and hands to feel, you’ll be able to distinguish between stereo and mono, and vibration or lack thereof.
The third option refers to how you use the A Button when carrying objects. Under the default (the leftmost choice), you must hold the A Button to keep from setting down whatever you are holding. However, if you begin walking you don’t need to continue holding the A button; you will only set down your object when you cease moving. To keep from dropping it when you cease moving, simple press and hold the A Button before you stop.
The secondary option (on the right) allows you pick up an object by pressing the A Button and continue carrying it indefinitely. When you want to put it down, press the A Button again.
Pause Menu
When the game is pause, several options are displayed along with the world map. They are, from the top:
Continue Playing
Monument List
Memory Album (Snapshot Viewer)
Giant Picture Book (Stats Viewer)
Daily Memo from your Narrator/Guide
Save and Quit
Continue Playing and Save and Quit are no-brainers. The Monument List displays any monuments you’ve earned so far along with appropriate color guides for making new villages. The Memory Album allows you to view any snapshots you’ve captured. The Giant Picture Book shows each days’ stats, and a cumulative graph can be displayed by pressing the A Button and selecting desired entries with further presses of the A Button. The daily memo provides advice and hints for gameplay and advancement, but is entirely in Japanese. Fear not, this guide provides all the information that the memos do, albeit in condensed form.
