Time to face Kanbei and Sonja!


Mission:Sami's Debut
Difficulty:Easy
Ideal CO:Sami
Enemy CO:Eagle

Strategy:Just before this mission begins, you're introduced to Sami, who is in charge of Special Infantry Forces. After a brief welcome, the mission begins. Yup, Eagle is back, oh joy of joys. This is probably one of the more annoying maps in the Normal Campaign simply due to Eagle's air superiority. However, all isn't lost; this area is 70% forest, more than evening out the odds. If there's one condition Sami excels in, it is Fog of War. After all, you can't see what you can't hit, right?

Anyway, the key to beating this map in record time is to wait out Eagle's first assault. Those two B-Copters might look rather tempting, but leave your A-Air units hiding safely in the forest. There's a couple of Bombers and other nasty things hanging around nearby. Instead, send your Fighter out to play; it should make short work out of Eagle's helicopters. Pull back the rest of your forces into the plentiful woods, making sure to hide your T-Copters behind your front lines. You should also start creeping your Missile unit forward slowly so that eventually you can have it cross the bridge. Send one of your Infantry north through the forest for some reconnaissance, while you wait Eagle out. Once you've taken out his Fighters and most of his B-Copters, it is your time to strike. Keep the rest of your units slowly creeping forward and send your T-Copters towards his HQ. The area around it is unprotected, since you wiped out the majority of his aviation units. You can have this map complete in 10 days.


Mission:Kanbei Arrives!

Enemy CO:Kanbei

Strategy:Ah, Yellow Comet. It's a tiny island country just southeast of Blue Moon. The military is headed by Kanbei, an honorable man with a fierce warrior spirit. You'll be introduced to his powerhouse army, so you should pick Max. Another good substitute is Sami, as you can usually sneak a lone Infantry along to capture his HQ after his first assault.

First things first; send Max's Md Tanks to obliterate the Yellow Comet Rockets in one turn. Then move your own Rockets forward one space left of your allied cities, placing your Tanks there just ahead so they can be used for body guards. Infantry can be used as a decoy so move them out. Don’t try and over-extend your reach since Kanbei will have his meter nearly full at the end of his first turn. Now, if you did as we said, Kanbei's entire first turn will have him move his forces forward without attacking (even the mighty Kanbei won't pit his Tanks against an Md Tank). Now you have a flock of sitting ducks. Fire all your indirect units then have your Md Tank attack Kanbei's Md Tank on the northern bridge. Avoid attacking the southern bridge, since there will be an Artillery unit just waiting for the next day. Kanbei will use Morale Boost at the beginning of his next turn: essentially a useless move since you've already massacred some of his more powerful units. When you get control again, unleash Max Force and pummel down his forces. With some smart planning you can mop up Kanbei's units in less than six days.


Mission:Mighty Kanbei!
Difficulty:Easy

Enemy CO:Kanbei

Strategy:Recommended Strategy: After huffing and puffing about his superior numbers and how he is going to crush the enemy to Sonja, Kanbei marches off certain he will be victorious. Of course, he forgets on thing: he left you with a bunch of factories.

This is an extremely easy map if you know the trick to it: Play defensively. Don't cross the bridges; instead let your Rockets do the work for you. Make sure you save up for an extra Md Tank for both the Eastern and Southern bridge and use them as roadblocks. It shouldn't take much to tear Kanbei's army apart, as long as you stay as healthy as possible (by subbing healthy Tanks for the ones getting damaged) and use Hyper Repair when needed. Just remember to harm the Unit directly in front of you enough so that it can't really harm you if it attacks. Don't destroy it, otherwise Kanbei will send in a healthy unit: quite possibly laying your roadblock to waste! If you can beat the map under eight days, (which isn't too difficult,) you'll get S-Rank.


Mission:Kanbei's Error?

Strategy:Ah Kanbei, when will you listen to your daughter? Once more, the mighty warrior has misplaced his intel and decided to take the wolf by the ears. Unfortunately, he missed and is now latched onto your tail. In this mission the side that captures 15 bases will be declared the victor. Your key to victory lies in the little island directly northeast of your HQ; another airport close at hand will do wonders for your mobility. If you use Max you can ensure a quick and easy win, taking out any opposition in one attack (usually). Even though Sami tells you otherwise, send an Infantry east to capture that landlocked Factory of Kanbei's. While it may not be able to do anything offensively it'll effectively kill Kanbei’s chance of winning since he will be unable to gain any more than 14 mainland bases. If you capture that base, the rest of the mission is a breeze. You should be able to complete the map in two days short of a fortnight. If you do, you'll be awarded an S-rank for your troubles.


Mission:Divide & Conquer!
Difficulty:Easy
Ideal CO:Max
Enemy CO:Sonja

Strategy:If you managed to complete the three "normal" Yellow Comet missions in 8, 10 and 12 days respectively, you'll get to take on Sonja in combat. She's not only impressed by your prowess but she's also a bit nervous about what exactly your troops are doing in her homeland. Therefore Kanbei's cunning daughter has taken it upon herself to gather all the intel she requires and has set Max up the bomb! Sami and Andy are nowhere to be found, and Max fears the worst.

Things are going to get even more miserable before they get better. Sonja's visual range in Fog of War is much higher than any other CO's, and if she unleashes Enhanced Vision you're going to be in a world of pain, since it will reveal nearly the entire map and even units hiding in reefs or forests. Another perk she has is that her Units' HP remain hidden from enemy eyes, more of a nuisance than a threat on this map. However, things aren't all bleak; you have two things on your side. First, Sonja is plagued by bad luck, or rather, her units tend to do less damage than they should. Second, you're using Max. Max smashes things. But then, you already knew that.

For a swift battle, gather your forces north and to the west. Make sure you spread out your troops so you can find the two or three Rockets that Sonja has well hidden in the forests. You'll encounter a pittance of troops on your journey north; 2 Infantry and a couple of normal Tanks that will try to ambush you. If you've set your offenses correctly, by having your Md Tank spearhead the campaign, you'll crush Sonja's troops like bugs. Once you've hit the main road to the north you'll be sailing easy, asides from a small Tank guarding the vicinity, you'll not come across much if any resistance.

One other thing: make sure you leave an extra Tank and the Recon Unit nearby your HQ. Sonja will try sneaking in a single Infantry unit to cut your HQ from under you. This map took 12 days on the first try and we were still awarded an S-rank. Have fun.
