Nintendo World Report's Wii Launch Adventures

More Staffers and Conclusion

by Steven Rodriguez - December 6, 2006, 1:00 am EST

Do you think you had a rough time getting a Wii? Wait until you see what we had to go through!

Jonathan Metts, Reviews Editor

I got my Wii a week early for review purposes. On the day before launch, while everyone was getting into line for a system, I was playing Zelda like mad and feverishly writing my review to get it online before midnight. On launch day proper, I went skiing.

Ty is currently stuck in Japan, but that didn't stop him from partaking in the Japanese launch festivities. You can read up on his dealings over here.

Conclusion

Well folks, there you have it. Now you know what it was we went through to claim a Wii. Just about everyone here had to endure a little hardship to get one (except for Jonny, that lucky son-of-a...) but ultimately, the prize was worth it. Big time. We called this feature "Wii Launch Adventures" for a reason, and perhaps now it's clear why. Indiana Jones would have shied away from some of the peril people had to deal with, even though one of the artifacts at the end of the booby-trapped gauntlet clearly belongs in a museum.

These were only the accounts of ten people. There were 600,000 people who purchased a Wii in North America during the first week. Another 400,000 snatched up every Wii in Japan in one day. Australia and Europe will push that total even higher, and by the end of the month, four million people will have a launch adventure to tell. And that's before they play the Wii for the first time.

How about you? Was getting a Wii more adventurous than you bargained for? Did anything happen that was more insane then what we went through? Tell us! Join your fellow readers in the NWR Forum Talkback thread for this special, and tell the world your tales. North America, South America, Japan, Europe, Australia...wherever you're from, we want to hear about your Wii Launch Adventures!
