Two men. One game. Writer vs. Reader in the ultimate showdown for video hockey supremacy.
The Reader Challenge Begins
One of the coolest things about PAX East is being able to meet up with other gamers to play them on titles you wouldn't normally have access to. Thanks to the Retro Console Free Play Room, NWR forumer Insanolord and I were able to throw down in the classic sports game NHL '94 (Genesis). This is one of my favorite games of all time, and furthermore it's a hockey game and I'm Canadian, so there was a lot of pride at stake on my end.

Insanolord picked his Philadelphia Flyers and I chose the New York Rangers, whose 1993 squad had superstars like Mark Messier and Brian Leetch, but were still more of a gritty hard-checking team (as opposed to Detroit or Chicago, who had stacked uber-players like Sergei Fedorov and Jeremy Roenick). With our teams fairly evenly matched and Ron Barr dispensing with introductions (not to mention James Jones on camera duty and play-by-play), we got down to business.
