NWR's Nintendo Summer Contest

by James Jones - July 21, 2009, 10:07 am EDT

Show us how you enjoy the summer with Nintendo and you can win a copy of Wii Sports Resort with MotionPlus! NOTE: CONTEST IS CLOSED.

"How do you enjoy your summer with Nintendo games?"

Wii Sports Resort, the tropical next chapter in the Wii Sports phenomenon, is coming in a few short days. With it comes Wii MotionPlus, adding a new layer of control to the game. Archery, sky-diving, Frisbee-throwing, cycling, fencing and basketball are all summer activities in Wii Sports Resort.

Wii Sports Resorts is going to be huge. We here at Nintendo World Report are excited about getting our hands on it and pretending we have the wherewithal and drive to experience sports from The Islands. You readers are undoubtedly just as excited.

There's a lot to summer fun outside of gaming, but why do that when you can play on Wii instead? We want to know how you turn your summer into a trip to the resort...with gaming. Send us your videos, pictures, artwork, or marble statues depicting how you spend the summer with video games. Use any visual medium; the more creative the better. Just remember the theme: summer and video games.

Of course, we wouldn't ask you to do all this for nothing. We'll post all the submissions and open voting to you, our readers, as well as our panel to select their favorites. The highest-scoring submission wins a copy of Wii Sports Resort (that comes bundled with Wii MotionPlus) (North American Version), and runners-up will win other summer goodies (TBD...we're waiting on a few things to show up on our doorstep).

Need ideas? Here's an example of a possible video script.

Imagine a young man at the beach, building an intricate sand palace. His eyes keep looking off screen; he's asking for directions from a person outside the camera's view. "How should I top this tower?" "Does the moat cut in here?" "How does this look? Should I put shell windows in or leave it alone?" After a few more tweaks he steps back, satisfaction beaming from his face.

He looks towards the mystery construction planner, asking, "Well what do you think?" The camera slowly pans right, and down, following the path of his eyes. When it stops, the image framed by the camera is that of a DS sitting on a small beach towel. A chime sounds; it is the sound of a Pictochat message received. What appears on the screen is a crudely drawn image of a castle. The scribbles don't resemble at all the magnificent hall he has constructed.

The camera pans back to the man, anger visible on his face. He shouts at the DS, "You said that the bridge should cross in the back!" He stomps his foot through the front door, like a battering ram smashing open the gates, with all the rage of a revolution. As the screen fades to black the sand walls crumble around his leg.

Okay, it's not Martin Scorcese, but you get the idea. Now hurry up and start working on your submissions!
