Is your day a little brighter if you listen to the show imagining half of the podcast is still growing their Nordiques protest beard?

Sometimes we have a week where we're all a bit low on new games, but as opposed to doing the unthinkable - coming up with an alternate segment - we execute New Business with an eclectic collection of odds and ends. Greg starts off with a look back at a bunch of recently-patched games: Go! Go! Kokopolo 3D, Blaster Master Zero, and Shovel Knight (with Specter of Torment). He also spends some time talking about Pikmin 3, while we pontificate on the fate of Pikmin 4. Guillaume battles the uncaring My Nintendo Rewards system to procure Rhythm Heaven MEGAMIX. He also looks at non-violent platformer Ninja Pizza Girl and puzzle game (and hard fact) Girls Like Robots. James offers some additional thoughts on Puyo Puyo Tetris, but he's mostly just suffering the insipid writing and wondering why it's not called Puyo X Tetris. Jon is now on the most recent Witcher, 3, after practicing on its smaller predecessor. Lastly, the Switch-Trio continue last week's talk about Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Given the rather weighty New Business segment, we targeted a smaller mailbag this week. We failed. In celebration of Kirby's 25th Birthday, we pick our our favorite mainline and spin-off Kirby games. The only problem is figuring out what constitutes a spin-off in this series. Our second email asks why do some video game characters "need" updating, where others are best left untouched? This launches us into a wide-ranging conversation that eventually concludes in Jon describing a hypothetical Tingle game he'd like to see. It already exists. You can invent existing games too by sending us an email.

Jesus! I haven't even listened to the episode yet, but the subheadline to the article startled me for a second, because in the email I sent you this week, I had made a joke about the Nordiques, but then I edited it out. I had to double-check to see if I had truly taken the joke out and I did.

Either great minds think alike or NHL jokes are that obvious! I'll go with the former! :)

Anyway, uh... go Sharks!

Ouch...Chicago Bears Draft blunder reference.  Right in my home team.  :confused;

Good show.

The character email brought the insight and inanity that makes this one of my favorite podcasts.

without hesitation, I answer that Kirby question with Kirby Superstar (Ultra) and Kirby Air Ride. With Return to Dreamland at a close Second for Main line, and... I sadly haven't played Planet Robobot because I'd probably crown that third from what gameplay of that game I've seen.

Canvas Curse and Mass Attack are spin-off titles.

I would consider Mainline kirby games to be games where Kirby possesses a variation of the control scheme he does in the original Kirby's dreamland, and that kirby has top billing in (to avoid any NES Remix product, Let's Tap! Amiibo, or Super Smash Bros. games from qualifying in this aspect)

The games that fit such a formula are as follows.

Kirby's Dreamland
Kirby's Adventure
Kirby's Dreamland 2
Kirby Superstar
Kirby's Dreamland 3
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland
Kirby and the Amazing Mirror
Kirby Squeak Squad
Kirby Superstar Ultra
Kirby's Return to Dreamland
3D Classics: Kirby's Adventure
Kirby's Dream Collection (Mainly included for the Challenge mode)
Kirby Triple Deluxe
Kirby Planet Robobot

Note that Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Kirby Fighters Deluxe are disqualified because they do not feature Kirby's ability to inhale enemies, which is a control mechanism from the original Kirby's Dreamland.

Although the likes of Epic Yarn, Mass Attack, and the Curse games have a similar level structure and have varying levels place in the Kirby canon, I'd argue that the inclusion of these games into the core lexicon opens you up to having to include Kirby Tilt n' Tumble, Kirby Block Ball, and all the Aforementioned games that kirby does not have top billing in as "Mainline Kirby Games"

God knows that Subspace Emissary is a heck of a lot closer to a Kirby game game flow wise than any other game represented in Super Smash Bros... and really, Kirby ends up being the one who saves everyone after Tabuu does his impression of Gill from Street Fighter 3.

What if they added Little Mac to Arms as Stretch Mac?

also, as further addendum to my kirby post...

They haven't done a proper Kirby 3D Platformer that isn't a weird score attack thing.

Or Kirby JRPG (although they made a faux JRPG combat in one of Mass Attack's mani mini games)

My personal vote is for Kirby survival/crafting game. It worked for BotW!
