If it looks and plays like a disaster, you should possibly find another way out from this roundabout.

I love a good racing game once in a while, which made me curious enough to look around on the Nintendo 3DS eShop. Quickly I found a game that was reduced in price for the time being called Chevrolet Camaro Wild Ride 3D. While I am more of a Toyota fan myself, I decided to give the curious looking title a shake. The results were far from pleasant. I could even go as far as stating that this was one of the most hate-filled moments of the year for me.

Whatever this Chevrolet game tries to accomplish is destroyed by being a barely playable mess. It tries to be a racing title which shows the highlights of the brand, but honestly after playing this, I am not sure if I can even recommend the car. Everything in the game screamed at me saying I was going 200 km/h, but it felt more like I was using the top speed of a turtle. It helps that the track designs aren't a thrill either and require very little skill to fully explore them. These aren't, however, even the worst issues the game has on display.

The computer controlled AI in the software aren't a smart bunch as they bump into walls, collide easily with other opponents and their only skill is to run others off the road. This cheap tactic makes it easy to not worry about them as they will be stuck in the wall for literally half of the race. Speaking about slamming into walls, the controls also deserve special praise for being too shoddy and inaccurate. It is not unusual for you to end up almost making a U-turn or bump a little too much against the edges of the track. This wouldn't be too much of an issue, but the problem is that some of the walls are invisible. You will find yourself hitting a wall when you simply don't want to and this will force you to the end of the pack.

The ranting is sadly not over, because we are going to talk about the game's visuals. Wild Ride 3D has an unprecedented low polygon count on the Nintendo 3DS and it makes the software look like a muddy mess. The draw distance in the game also deserves an award as it takes the crown from Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins as one of the worst in this category on the system. At best, you will be able to make out what is a couple of meters away and the rest is hidden in an endless set of fog. Add to that the terrible framerate and you have a product that truly has disaster written all over it.

Chevrolet Camaro Wild Ride 3D is the worst racing game of the year, with nothing of note to make it truly worth playing. It is a true miracle that the game does not crash, but beyond that, every aspect is designed terribly. The tracks are offensively easy, the sense of speed is not there, the game looks terrible and the controls bring me to actual tears. I could talk about the modes that are available, but there is simply no point in doing that. This Chevrolet is one ride into madness that you won't ever return to.

Summary

Pros
  • It functions... sometimes
Cons
  • Simply everything you can think of
