F1 Career Challenge

by Ed Shih - March 25, 2003, 10:21 pm EST

"F1 Racing...if it's in the game, it's in the game!" Or is it "F1 Racing...challenge everything"? Whatever, for info on EA's F1 Career Challenge, look here.

F1 racing is coming to the GameCube, thanks to Electronic Arts, in the form of F1 Career Challenge. The name may be generic (it's actually only a working title) but it describes the game fairly well as it allows you to start as a rookie driver and work your way through the ranks over 4 successive seasons to become one of the world's top racers.

Gamers will get to create themselves, choose a helmet design, and begin as a rookie driver with no license; you have to earn it. After earning a license, you must compete for a ride, develop better skills, complete test days and build a reputation as you climb through the ranks.

The game features the official Formula One Administration Limited license complete with full data from the actual 1999-2002 seasons, which means that every car, driver, track and team change from that era will appear in the game. More details include improved artificial intelligence that allows other race drivers to emulate their real-life personalities, feedback from your Chief Mechanic and Team Boss via headset radios, and a 3D garage complete with motion-captured mechanics.

F1 Career Challenge is being developed by Electronics Arts UK and should allow Formula One fans to take their shot at the leader board when it hits the stores in May.
