Game & Watch Gallery 4

by Ben Kosmina - July 16, 2002, 7:12 pm EDT

It's been a long time coming, but finally, Nintendo has announced the latest Game & Watch Gallery - Game & Watch Gallery 4.

Game & Watch Gallery 4 once again revives those old classic LCD handheld games that we love so much. The Gameboy Advance will be able to produce a really accurate version of the games in Classic mode, which keeps the original graphics, sounds and gameplay, along with the insane Modern Mode versions which has sneaky tricks, refreshing, updated graphics and Mushroom Kingdom characters. Confirmed characters include Mario, Toad, Donkey Kong Jr., Wario and Princess Peach.

Game and Watch Gallery 4 games include:

  • Rainshower - Anyone who's ever played this Game & Watch will tell you that it's one of the toughest ones ever made. It's a multi-screen opening out horizontally, and you must move your washing on the line to avoid raindrops and crows.

  • Boxing - One of the incredible rare VS. series G&Ws, Boxing had you fighting either against the computer, or you could pull out a second controller and fight against a friend. Presumably, this will be one of the single cart link up games.

  • Donkey Kong 3 - Another of the rare VS. series G&Ws, Donkey Kong 3 had Mario on one side of the screen, and DK on the other, and they had to pump gas at each other, I think... Looks really interesting. In two-player mode, one player is Mario, the other is DK.

  • Mario's Cement Factory - I. Love. This. Game. Mario's Cement Factory is the last G&W to be in a Game & Watch Gallery that got published in the obscure 'Gameboy Gallery' that only came out in Australia and Europe. It's a bit complex, as you have cement coming down chutes, and you must manually operate the chutes to allow the cement to flow down into the trucks.

  • Fire Attack - I've never played this G&W, but we've all seen an appearance of it in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Mr. Game and Watch's Smash Right Attack is from this very game. Apparently, your fort is being set on fire and you have to put the fires out. We'll see.

But, as this is Game and Watch Gallery, there will be more hidden games. (There were a total of 11 playable games in Game & Watch Gallery 3, so hopefully this can be topped.) Not to mention unlockable features such as Music Tests, the Gallery and more. And, as mentioned before, you'll be able to play certain games in a Single Pak Link up mode. Hopefully we'll get some screens soon.
