An uncanny group returns, with a few new additions.

After a seven-year absence, Silicon Knights returns to Nintendo platforms later this month with X-Men: Destiny for Wii and DS. The game takes place in the current X-Men timeline, and follows the origin stories of three brand new mutants, whom the player can choose to control. These new mutants create alliances and enemies with existing characters within the X-Men universe depending on how you play, making for a dynamic game experience.

The story revolves around these three brand new characters, each of whom are playable:

Grant Alexander, voiced by Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia, is a college student and football player in Berkeley, CA who is oblivious to and uninterested in the mutant conflict.

Aimi Yoshida, voiced by Than Hangover Part II's Jamie Chung, was smuggled out of Japan by her parents, also mutants, to keep her safe.  She doesn't understand the reasons why she was sent away and finds herself being angry and bitter at her situation.

Adrian Luca, played by Friday Night Lights star Scott Porter, is the son of a militant anti-mutant extremist who was associated with an organization called "Purifiers.”  Adrian was raised to hate mutants and is seeking revenge for the murder of his father.

When you choose a character above, you are then prompted to select a mutant power to assign to that character.  The choices are Density Control, which allows a mutant to change the thickness of his or her skin; Energy Projection, which acts as a range weapon; and Shadow Matter, which allows the user to create weapons out of thin air, or displace matter in order to teleport.

The game contains RPG elements, but is primarily an action game. As you progress through the game, you can customize your chosen character by adopting the mutant genes of other characters populating the X-Men universe.

It is unknown how the game might be unique on the Wii platform. Although the game is primarily a solo quest, the HD versions of the game do offer some options for DLC that will likely be missing in the Wii version. Aside from that, it seems as if the Wii version will be relatively feature-complete.
