CAPCOM® BRINGS TOGETHER THE ULTIMATE MEGA MAN™ ANTHOLOGY IN THE MEGA MAN™ ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION

SUNNYVALE, Calif -- September 12, 2003 -- Capcom today takes players on a retrospective journey through the evolution of their renowned blue action hero with the announcement of the Mega Man Anniversary Collection, a compilation of Mega Man titles for the PlayStationâ2 computer entertainment system and the Nintendo GameCube™. Featuring hours of endless entertainment, the Mega Man Anniversary Collection is an anthology of classic Mega Man games (Mega Man 1 through Mega Man 8) from the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Game Boy, PlayStation game console and arcade systems. This set will also include two never-before-released-in-the-US Mega Man arcade games: Mega Man the Power Battle and Mega Man 2 the Power Fighters. The Mega Man Anniversary Collection is scheduled to release throughout North American in February 2004. The ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) rating is pending.

“The Mega Man Anniversary Collection pays tribute to the brainchild behind this multimillion unit selling franchise, Keiji Inafune, and the original games that he created,” said Todd Thorson, director of marketing, Capcom Entertainment. “It gives gamers, who have not experienced the Mega Man phenomenon, an opportunity to play the titles that redefined the platform genre.”

In the Mega Man Anniversary Collection, players will be challenged to see if they have the skills to master some of the most extreme Mega Man titles ever released and to unlock a cache of bonus features that includes 30 minutes of anime, producer interviews, footage from the original TV commercials, and a history of the series. This ultimate set provides a comprehensive look at Mega Man’s progression through the years, as this near human robot embarked on his journey to becoming one of the longest running videogame icons to date. Take a trip down memory lane, reliving Mega Man's numerous quests to defeat Dr. Wily and his attempts to control the world and its resources. Gamers will reacquaint themselves with past adversaries such as Elect Man, Metal Man, Gemini Man, Pharaoh Man, Centaur Man, and Tengu Man, just to name a few. The Mega Man Anniversary Collection encompasses everything a new and hard-core fan would want for their existing library.

The Mega Man Anniversary Collection will include the following features:

  • 10 Mega Man games on one disk –

    • Mega Man 1 through Mega Man 8

    • Two never before released in the US Mega Man arcade games: Mega Man the Power Battle and Mega Man 2 the Power Fighters

  • Additional content – Unlock hidden original artwork, producer interviews, footage from the original TV commercials, anime videos and information about the entire franchise

  • Updated soundtracks

Great news. I recently enjoyed MMNT so I'm willing to give this a go.

Yay go Capcom!
You the best!
So much better
than all the rest!
Yes Mega Man recently
has sucked royally
But this going change

Mega Mans 1, 2, and 3
All for me!

^_^

LilMac2010September 12, 2003

Hell yes! this is insanely surprising. Mega Man has been near and dear to me, well, the old school Mega Man that is, not the new blah ones. Mega Man 3 remains one of my top games of all time. One thing that raised my eyebrow though..."updated soundtracks"...I love the soundtracks exactly how they are, in their dated, using only 4 instrument, aural bliss. I just hope they don't try to spruce up the soundtracks too much as the the music in Mega Man was a gigantic part of the game. I'm out.

So.... ummm.... I've never played a Megaman game before. I am not really into platformers for the most part, so I never really tried it. Would now be a good time to start?

rpgloverSeptember 12, 2003

capcom is awesome- i cant wait for this mega man compilation

"So.... ummm.... I've never played a Megaman game before. I am not really into platformers for the most part, so I never really tried it. Would now be a good time to start?"

i would say so- the mega man games are very good- there is more of an emphasis on shooting in the mega man games for the most part- but the mega man games are pretty tough- especially the bosses- but they are very fun

DjunknownSeptember 12, 2003

WOOOOOT!!!! I feel all warm and fuzzy inside....
Capcom's smart to capitalize on our nostalgia but who can blame them?

Grey Ninja, if you never played it before, you won't get the twinkle in your eye like someone who did all those years ago. The nostalgia effect may not be there, but if you want to play a big piece of gaming history (No blowing cartrdiges) and see how games were back in the day, its worth a shot.

KDR_11kSeptember 12, 2003

I have none of the games included so it's a definite buy for me!

Hm, no XBox version, maybe MM is too kiddy for 'em face-icon-small-wink.gif.

*Dies*

*over and over again*

Now THIS is awesome news. This has officially become my most wanted game. Plus TV adverts, half an hour of anime, interviews? Holy moly. HOLY MOLY. *Throws his Rockman World Mega Drive cartridge in the bin*

I never got to play Mega Man five, or six. I've never even seen them in action. CAN'T FRIGGIN' WAIT. *Makes love to a Capcom logo*

mouse_clickerSeptember 12, 2003

Ninjs: I'd at least play a few of the games first to see if you even like Mega Man. I'm assuming this compilation will be expensive, and there's no use in paying a lot for some games you may hate..

PIACSeptember 13, 2003

yeah have a quick go of a rom or something, i haven't played megaman much at all, but i know they are pretty hard, either way ill get it face-icon-small-happy.gif

KnoxxvilleSeptember 13, 2003

....I can't friggin' believe it. This has GOT to be some kind of sick joke....

I am officially in shock and awe of Capcom.

KnowsNothingSeptember 13, 2003

I've never played a Megaman game either. but I hate him. not the games, I already told you I've never played him. I just hate megaman.

Oh, but 10 Megaman games on one disk sounds great. Too bad it comes out right after my birthday. face-icon-small-sad.gif

cubedcinder128September 13, 2003

Sizzling circuits!!! face-icon-small-shocked.gif

Words cannot describe how excited I am about this, especially since I've dreaming of a game like this for over five years. And with all those extra features that is being promised, this is definitely more than just a retro compiliation disc. This is the ultimate present a Mega Man fan could wish for.

Thank you so much, Capcom! face-icon-small-smile.gif

Bill AurionSeptember 13, 2003

And a perfect date too...Where there aren't many games coming out...

SnowspinnerSeptember 13, 2003

I wonder if they'll be using the Playstation version of Mega Man 8, or the Saturn version, which featured two extra bosses.

Also, I wonder if they'll be using the original graphics for Mega Mans 1-6, or the updated graphics used on the Japanese rereleases for the PSX.

Bill AurionSeptember 13, 2003

Give us the classic look!

ChipheadSeptember 14, 2003

That's a lot of extras. I hope they'll all make it to the GameCube version. Oh, and I just noticed the "updated soundtracks" bit. A new Megaman 2 soundtrack should kick ass. They should still keep the original versions, though, for the purists.

vuduSeptember 15, 2003

has there been any word on if this disc will retail at $40 like the sonic collection or the regular $50? (or, god forbid, at a higher price as someone in these forums eluded to)
