Day One System Update enables online functionality including Nintendo eShop, Miiverse, Wii U Chat applications and dedicated Internet Browser
29th November 2012 – The Nintendo Network and many other online functions of Wii U will be up and running when the brand new HD home console from Nintendo launches across Europe this Friday November 30th. After connecting Wii U to the Internet and running a System Update* Wii U owners will be able to access Miiverse, Wii U Chat, a dedicated Internet Browser, as well as Nintendo eShop. Offering a variety of exclusive games to download as well as select downloadable versions of packaged software** from Nintendo and other publishers such as New Super Mario Bros. U, Nintendo Land, ZombiU, FIFA 13 and more, demos of games and special offers on day one, Nintendo eShop is the digital storefront for Wii U. Additional applications such as YouTube, UPLAY and NETFLIX will also available to download through Nintendo eShop on Wii U.
What’s more, Nintendo eShop will also allow you to watch videos of already released and upcoming Wii U software on the TV screen or the Wii U GamePad. It will also provide a search function where you can view content according to user rankings, keywords or genre.
Wii U Premium Pack owners will also have access to Nintendo Network Premium*** With Nintendo Network Premium with every purchase of software or add-on content, or download code redemption for downloadable software or add-on content in Nintendo eShop on your Wii U from Nintendo or other publishers****, you can earn points at a rate of 8 points for each pound or Euro of the Nintendo eShop price of the respective download. When you have collected 500 points, you will be able to exchange them for an activation code, which can be used to add funds in Nintendo eShop.
Also available at launch, Miiverse is a brand new network communication system that lets you share experiences, discuss games and discover new game content with other players from around the world. Wii U Chat uses the built-in capabilities of the Wii U GamePad to allow a unique form of real-time video chat with friends via the TV screen, while the Internet Browser makes it easy to surf the Internet from the comfort of your sofa by using the GamePad for browsing and having the ability to display Internet content for the whole family to enjoy on the TV screen. These innovative features make connecting the console to the internet a must for any Wii U owner. Parents will also be able to use Parental Controls to determine exactly which online and offline content their children will have access to on their Wii U.
After performing the Wii U System Update, existing Wii owners will also be able to perform a System Transfer*****, allowing them to transfer content including saved games, WiiWare and Virtual Console games and Mii characters from their Wii to their new Wii U console.
On the launch day for Wii U the following download-exclusive games will be available from Nintendo eShop. To celebrate their releases, some games are even at a special launch price for a limited time only.

**A section of the internal memory is reserved for system data. The available storage space for saving data after excluding the area reserved for the system and built-in software is approximately 3GB in the Wii U Basic Pack and approximately 25 GB in the Wii U Premium Pack. With the Wii U Basic Pack, an additional storage device maybe required in order to download a game from Nintendo eShop (depending on the size of the game). The amount of available storage space can be expanded with external USB storage media. Wii U supports USB hard disk drives with a dedicated power source, called self-powered USB. ***The period for earning points will end on 31st December 2014. The period for redeeming points will end on 31st March 2015. All activation codes not redeemed by 30th June 2015 will be void.
