WII-KLY UPDATE: NEW CLASSIC GAME ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

Traverse the half-pipe from the comfort of your living room. With this classic game, it's Winter Break all the time. Freestyle through white powder, and school your best pal with your new trick! Did you get air?

This new classic game goes live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new game is:

1080°® SNOWBOARDING (N64®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points): Hit the slopes for some serious shredding in one of the first truly realistic snowboarding games ever created! Start in the lodge and select from five characters, each with his/her own particular attributes and special tricks. Then take a look at the wide assortment of available boards and choose one that best suits your rider and style. Once you've got the gear, six different modes of play, including Match Race, Trick Attack, and 2-Player Versus, await. Pick a course and get ready to experience a sensation of speed that'll make you forget all about the cold—but it might just send a shiver down your spine. Throw in hidden characters and boards, varying weather and snow conditions, multiple paths through each course, and a variety of tricks to master—topped off with rock-solid play control—and you've got a recipe for winter fun that you can enjoy any time of the year. It's all the fun and excitement of the sport, without the bruises and frostbite!

A game... wonderful. Well they can't slow too much more unless Nintendo starts taking away games.

Don't give NOA any ideas. You saw what NOE did with those import games...

1 game is completely unacceptable, all the moreso when the releases this week are fairly barren. There are simply too many great backlist games out there for a 1/week schedule- and this after a series of 2/week releases.

To those without a Virtual Console game to play this week, might I suggest picking up the wonderful Endless Ocean game developed by Arika and published by Nintendo? Available at fine retailers everywhere for a mere $29.99 US! face-icon-small-wink.gif

One game, huh?

*this* is Nintendo's answer to VC storage problems.

This makes me wonder if third-parties are now shying away from the VC.

Perhaps they've decided their games just aren't being downloaded enough to warrant future support.

Or maybe Nintendo has simply realized The Wii has another four of five years to go and they gotta pace the updates to last until the end.

Besides, it may be just ONE game, but it IS a first-party N64 game and one of the best for that matter.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

I love 1080. Wasn't it made in something like 7 months by mostly one guy?

I wonder. Capcom, Konami and Square Enix have a buttload of classic titles that could be released on the VC but they have been very... conservative, for lack of a better word, with VC support. It's there but it isn't in relation to the level of support those companies gave the NES and SNES. Is Actraiser Square Enix's only VC game?

Maybe they figure they make more money if they repackage their games in a way where people pay full price for them. Who will buy a remade Final Fantasy on the GBA, DS or PSP if they can get the original for much cheaper on the VC?

At some point though new VC releases have to dry up. It's too soon now but there is a limit on how many games can be released.

But 1080 is awesome.

Maybe they are slowing down because THEY have ran out of storage space? "5gb should be enough for all the infinite number of games we want"

Downloaded this ages ago cos PAL is winning the fight for a change.

I should email the various Nintendo divisions to let them know that they can borrow my 20GB USB hard drive.

nitsu niflheimJanuary 29, 2008

Great variety this week. There is no logical reason why we have only one game a week releases, especially for a game that isn't even one of those "BIG" games like Zelda or Mario.
