Jose Reyes Named Cover Athlete and Official Spokesman for Major League Baseball® 2K8

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--2K Sports, the sports publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: TTWO), announced today that New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes will be the cover athlete and official spokesman for Major League Baseball® 2K8.

“This year we have signed one of the most exciting players in all of Major League Baseball® as our official cover athlete," said Ben Brinkman, Executive Producer, Major League Baseball® 2K8. “Jose Reyes is a multi-talented player – a great baserunner, fielder and hitter, making him the perfect spokesperson for Major League Baseball® 2K8."

“This is the first time I have ever been on the cover of a video game and it is very exciting to be a part of the best video game out there," said Jose Reyes.

Although he is best known for his speed and base-stealing ability, Jose Reyes is also one of the most well-rounded players in the game and is the first player in baseball history to have more than 63 steals, 120 runs, 192 hits, and 19 homers in a single season. Reyes led the Major League in 2006 with 17 triples and 64 stolen bases and set a new Mets club record with 104 hits at Shea Stadium. Also an avid video gamer and long time fan of 2K Sports’ products, All-Star Shortstop Jose Reyes is a natural fit as the official spokesperson for this year’s edition of the critically acclaimed Major League Baseball 2K series.

Major League Baseball® 2K8 will be available spring 2008 for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PLAYSTATION®3 and PlayStation®2 computer entertainment systems, the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, and the Wii™ home video game system.

Seriously.. I really want hockey but for some reason no one's making a Wii game face-icon-small-frown.gif

I would also like hockey, and college football too. And every sports game for the Wii should include Classic/Cube controller support as well as motions, for two reasons. One, I love Wii Sports baseball, but I don't have the energy to pitch and hit like that for 162 9-inning games, and two, developers can screw up motions a lot easier than buttons. EA nailed football controls in Madden, but from what I hear FIFA and especially NBA Live didn't fare anywhere near as well.

I agree with all. Madden was done really well I felt. Never did try FIFA or NBA because I have no interest in either of those sports. Wii Sports Basebal wrecked me after 3 games. I probably could have just played it differently, but that's not how I roll. I just read too that Take 2 is going to release a boxing game. They still make hockey games right? Is there a chance?

2K seemed to be following their GameCube strategy of not bringing their sports games to Nintendo's platform (besides baseball which we only got because of the horrible exclusivity deal that killed MVP Baseball, MVP 2005 is still the best baseball game out there) but now that the Wii has the level of sales dominance it has they may reconsider that. There's still hope on the EA side as well; we got Madden and Tiger in 07, then they added NBA and FIFA in 08, so maybe 09 will get us NHL and NCAA football (or even NCAA basketball, which EA has never brought to a Nintendo console). What I'm really hoping for is one of the Genesis NHL games on the VC, that would be the greatest.

Yeah, in my hopes, I was applying the, "2-new-titles-a-year" theory with EA as well. I'm bet we don't get any of the old NHL games if they have to take player names out since there would be players in there that are no longer apart of the player's association. Maybe though, we'd get the OLD ones before there were names but still had real NHL/NFL teams. All in a dream.

Well EA included some older Maddens in the Collectors Edition 15th Anniversary Maddens and they modified them to include current rosters. And besides, this is EA we're talking about, do you think they're going to refuse $8 per download that's almost pure profit?

Michael_82December 10, 2007

Yes, yes. Excellent points.

Hell yes! Reyes representin' for my team. Couldn't care less about the game, but it's cool to see a NY Met on the cover. Will it feature his batting song?

IceColdDecember 10, 2007

And the NHL games are actually getting better every year. I played NHL 08 on the 360, and it's amazing..

Michael_82December 10, 2007

you're stronger than I then. I've wanted to play it desperately but won't let myself. I can't afford the 360 purchase that would surely transpire afterward

IceColdDecember 10, 2007

Yeah I know what you mean.. I'm not really interested in shooters so I don't think I'll ever buy a 360.

But if any game has made me want one, it's NHL 08. And possibly Too Human (if only for my love of Eternal Darkness).
