Bethesda Softworks Announces

STAR TREK®: Conquest for Holiday 2007

STAR TREK®: Conquest to be Released for the Wii™ and PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system

August 3, 2007 (Rockville, MD) – Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax Media company, today announced its next STAR TREK videogame, STAR TREK®: Conquest, a blend of strategy and intense action set in “The Next Generation" era. Conquest will be available for the Wii™ home video game system from Nintendo and PlayStation®2.

Players take control of Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Cardassian, Dominion, and Breen forces and lead them in a campaign to control the Galaxy, one planet at a time. Build and manage your growing empire in turn-based strategy, fully utilizing the Wii Remote™ as you select and maneuver your starships throughout the large, galactic map.

Strategically, you must effectively manage limited resources to expand your empire. You decide how to best achieve objectives by managing your fleets and admirals, building support structures, researching technology, and engaging your enemies in combat.

Once battle is initiated, Conquest switches to a ship level tactical view allowing direct command of your ships as you engage in real-time combat. While maneuvering your starship with the Nunchuk™, take direct aim and fire away with the Wii Remote™.

Conquest has not yet been rated by the ESRB. Scheduled for a simultaneous release this Holiday at an estimated MSRP of $29.99 on the Wii™ and $19.99 on the PlayStation®2. For more information visit http://startrek.bethsoft.com.

Actually that low price worries me, maybe the game is only worth that much. Poor Star Trek fans we haven't gotten a good Star Trek game since Bridge Commander.

Where's Wiiblivion?

So do you want Alien Syndrome to be priced at $30 or $50 GP? Make up your mind!

I know what you mean about the price making you question the quality, and I have little doubt this is a PS2 port (so yes, you can say it: lazy port! OMGBBQ!), but one thing we've been waiting for with the Wii was the advent of even lower prices, as we can see with RE4:Wii being released at $30, and games like Zack & Wiki and Space Station Silicon valley looking to be released at $40 too! It's good to see that trend continue, and a force for cheaper games to counteract Sony's and MS' push at $60 and UP prices!

I saw this over at IGN and it put a huge smile on my face. Not only is it a Trek game for the Wii, it's a Trek game for the Wii that, from the description, sounds like exactly the kind of Trek game I want.

And Kairon is right, GP, you said Alien Syndrome should have been budget priced because it was a PSP port without much added, and now someone puts a $30 price tag on a PS2 port and you think the price is an indicator of quality. There really is no pleasing you, is there?

BTW, you said there hasn't been a good one since Bridge Commander, I am about to play through that if I can get it to run right in Parallels, so that's good to know, but I did really enjoy Tactical Assault on the DS earlier this year. You probably wouldn't like it, though, because it wasn't reviewed all that well and you take review scores as the law.

Actually I thought Alien Syndrome should have been budget price because the genre does not lend itself to a $50 price tag and it more than likely did not have a big budget (Midway got that with their gauntlet games). Not to mention the fact that PSP is a handheld system while the PS2 is a console. Regardless when a game is budget priced at launch, it usually means it is not of the highest quality or it is lacking features to justify a $50 price tag (Which Alien Syndrome seemed to be) which Alien Syndrome should have been, heck it is getting similar reviews to Escape from Bug Island and that game is $30.

That would still place it among the best Star Trek games.
