Blitz to Develop Pac-ManTM 25th Anniversary Game

Monday 11th Aril 2005

Leading developer Blitz Games has today announced its latest high-profile project – Pac-Man WorldTM 3. In development for Namco Hometek Inc., the game will appear in the autumn of 2005 on PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, PC and PSP.

The world was first introduced to Toru Iwatani's yellow dot muncher in 1980 – Pac-Man exploded onto the video game scene and never looked back. 25 years later, he has starred in dozens of games and has been the inspiration for more than 400 different products from cereal to watches to air fresheners and even a cartoon.

Pac-Man World 3 combines contemporary platform game mechanics with traditional Pac-Man play principles, and features Pac-Man staples including Power Pellets, Pac-Dots, Pac-Chains and fruit while adding new elements such as a Pactrometer, power-up smoothies and several new special moves. Players will even get to play as ghosts Pinky and Clyde, who each have distinctive special abilities.

Blitz CEO Philip Oliver is enthusiastic about the company's latest development deal: "We're extremely excited about helping Namco to celebrate Pac-Man's 25th anniversary and we are honoured to be working with such an iconic videogame character. We're looking forward to bringing him to life in a distinctive and original way."

"Blitz has great experience in developing character-based games and we're sure that the finished product will thrill Pac-Man fans," Commented Garry Cole, Executive Vice President of Namco Hometek Inc.

They should include the (basically) never before played Tournament Edition of the original Pac-Man with all five ghosts...

Interesting. As I understand it, the first two Pac-Man World games were developed in-house in America....

UPDATE: OH GOD NO. They made Zapper!
