The headline says it all, really. Nintendo has just announced that they've scheduled a press conference to show off the Nintendo DS and its games to retailers and the public on October 7, less than a month away.

All that's currently known about what Nintendo plans to do at this conference is to have President Satoru Iwata and a certain Shigeru Miyamoto present to explain the new handheld and to answer any questions about the unit that might arise.

The Tokyo Game Show, an event that Nintendo will once again not attend, still might shed some more light on what exactly the DS will be all about, with third parties likely to share some of what they've got to offer for the Nintendo DS. TGS runs from September 24 through the 26th this year.
