Nintendo's epic strategy RPG comes to the Cube.

The Shonen Jump magazine in Japan has pulled the wraps off the first GameCube installment of Nintendo's mega-hit strategy/RPG franchise Fire Emblem.

Fire Emblem recently broke out of Japan with a release of the newest title in the series on Game Boy Advance here in the US. The series is now making the jump to GameCube. The new title features an isometric camera view on a 3D medieval styled world.

For now all we know about the game's story is that it is subtitled "Trial of the Blue Flame." PGC will have more on this exciting news just as soon as we get all the information translated, so stay tuned!

*crumples into a pile, convulsing from happiness*

You can find the scan if you look hard enough...The art is just as amazing as always... ^_^

I hate April 1st. You never know what's fake and what's real! face-icon-small-sad.gif

StrikerObiMike Sklens, Podcast EditorApril 01, 2004

This is real. The magazine said a few weeks ago they'd be revealing it soon.

BloodworthDaniel Bloodworth, Staff AlumnusApril 01, 2004

Magazine scans are hard to fake. I've seen them. It's just not legal for us to post them.

Bill AurionApril 01, 2004

You really think someone would put this much effort into an April Fool's joke? face-icon-small-wink.gif

Ninty is already planning for some fantastic 2005 releases... ^_^

mouse_clickerApril 01, 2004

I love you guys!!!! face-icon-small-happy.gif I've been playing Fire Emblem for the GBA constantly- the last RPG I had this much fun with was Grandia 2!

StrikerObiMike Sklens, Podcast EditorApril 01, 2004

Grandia II's battle system was crafted by god himself.

ATimsonApril 01, 2004

If as the linked page with scans suggests, this is a sequel to the first GBA FE game, and if FE GC ends up coming to the US, I really hope that we get a port of the first GBA FE game....

ralph98201April 01, 2004

this is the kind of stuff the cube needs... keep it comin' ninty

Ian SaneApril 01, 2004

Holy sh!t. Like MC I was thinking "this better not be an April Fool's Day prank." Of course I don't think PGC would do something so mean in the first place. It would ruin their reputation.

I'm excited which is funny because I haven't even gotten round to playing Fire Emblem for the GBA yet. face-icon-small-smile.gif Still I am interested in getting it once I have the time. The real reason to be excited is that this is a MAJOR exclusive release for the Cube. It's a killer app and one that cannot be called "kiddy" in any form.

If you think about it it's quite brilliant. Nintendo releases Fire Emblem in North America for the GBA first. The GBA has a much larger userbase and thus the game is exposed to more people. Then they release a Cube Fire Emblem game thus drawing any GBA owners who loved the game but don't have a Cube. It's actually quite similar to Pokemon which was a big hit on the Gameboy and spread the success to the N64. Obviously Fire Emblem isn't as popular as Pokemon but the idea is the same and will probably work pretty well.

There's just one problem. Is this game going to be released in North America?

KDR_11kApril 01, 2004

Looks awesome, but who is that creepy masked guy under the number 44 that seems to be peeking under the girl's skirt?

KnoxxvilleApril 01, 2004

Mouse_Clicker is my twin face-icon-small-wink.gif

That's the samething I thought of, especially of Grandia II. ( Which I still have for DC )

I think it's the best in the series, ( oppossed to Grandia III for ps2 )

Man I can't wait, I have Fire Emblem playing on my GBPlayer.

It's awesome, I just hate when I lose someone in my party.
especially when I'm starting to like them.

And I've never got to the end..........yet.

I've passed the dragons gate and still going.

GoldShadow1April 01, 2004

WOOHOO! I still haven't played Fire Emblem for GBA (Still waiting for a good price) but this sounds excellent. It will be interesting to see what tactical RPG's look like on the Cube. Hopefully it is in full, glorious 3D as opposed to sprite-based games like FFT or that crazy PS2 game that I can't recall the name of at the moment.

jasonditzApril 01, 2004

Meh, I'm still more interested in Tales of Symphonia

Terranigma FreakApril 02, 2004

Fire Emblem on GC, YEEEEEEEEEES!!!! Cat people in this game... NOOOOOOO! 3D FFT like play field.... NOOOOO!!!! This is goddamn Fire Emblem, not some crappy tactics game. Well I could be jumping the gun with the graphics but I hate cat people.

nolimit19April 02, 2004

just when i think nintendo cant do anything any worse they go and do something like this.......AND TOTALLY REDEEM THEMSELVES!

Bill AurionApril 02, 2004

"Fire Emblem on GC, YEEEEEEEEEES!!!! Cat people in this game... NOOOOOOO!"

Looks like I have to kill you, even though you like Terranigma... devil.gif

xanrastafariApril 02, 2004

Holy carp, Fire Emblem and Mario Story 2 for GCN!!! Now, here's to hoping there is a new Mario platformer-type game and Zelda at E3.

GCN has a bright future, but I'm wondering what the big N is doing with the GBA right now? Not many releases that interest me from them in the future.

oh, right, the DS.

Koopa TroopaApril 02, 2004

::breathes heavily into paper bag:: Oh, this is like herbal essences! Yes! Yes! Yes! YES!

::Dies::

I almost crapped my pants! I'm so HAPPY! Woohoo!

You'll have to ask Camelot face-icon-small-wink.gif only they know!!!

heh....... I can't wait for this game to come out.

I knew it was a matter of time.

But I have to ponder this for a minute, Intelligent Systems had trouble doing 3D during the lifespan of the N64.
I hope that's no longer a hurdle anymore.

I hope that we'll get more info and screen shots a.s.a.p. face-icon-small-smile.gif

Thank's PGC for teh scoop. face-icon-small-smile.gif

In addition to Skies of Arcadia Legends, PSO I, II, and II, and Crystal Chronicles. The Gamecube has a mighty nice RPG scene building up.

theRPGFreakApril 02, 2004

I also noticed that this game's battle system looks like the one from Final Fantasy Tatics. Lets hope this is trueface-icon-small-wink.gif

akdaman1April 02, 2004

I actually saw this about 2-3 days ago.

I was gonna inform everyone except ... I had school and umm ...Zelda to finish.

Anyway I cant wait for this. I will be honest here... I got Fire Emblem for the GBA ...emulated. And I played it to the end ( almost ) ...then I just stopped. I spent about 20 hours on it ...more then any hand held game ever.

I am hoping to buy this leggaly because an emulated version is nowhere near as great as the real thing. I found this out when I bout Link to the Past for GBA.

Anyway back to topic -

I hope the game turns out a little bit darker then this. I mean Nintendo need a franchise that can sorta replace Zelda ( the darker one ). I hope they dont rush this game. I also hope they have cut scenes ...( not like the ones in the GBA version ) where you can see the vast fields of Theilus.

I expect the battle system will be like that found in the NES/SNES/GBA games. But this is where FFT and all those other console SRPGs got the idea so I doubt you'll be disappointed.

BernyApril 02, 2004

Holy Jeebus yes! There is a God and he loves Cubers in America...I hope.

Seriously, could this weekend get ANY better for us? I doubt it. Although I was ecstatic when I saw that RE4 AND MP2 come out with a week of my birthday. ^_^

nickmitchApril 02, 2004

MAN!!! With all this good news comming the next thing ya know Microsoft and Sony will go out of buisness.

akdaman1April 02, 2004

Anyone got any US Fire Emblem sales info ? It might help make it a little bit more clear wheteher this will come out in US or not.

ruby_onixApril 02, 2004

Fire Emblem supposedly sold 75,748 in November (it's launch month) and 111,728 in December.

I say thats good enough for a US version of Fire Emblem GCN

KDR_11kApril 03, 2004

It's not coming to Europe, eh?

BernyApril 03, 2004

It freakin' better be. I need to get the GBA game. I rarely beat GBA games though. I don't know why. I still can't beat Bowletta in Mario and Luigi and I have a few more levels to beat in MM0.

KyoshoApril 03, 2004

finally, more RPGs are coming that actually interest me for the Gamecube. As of late, i've been fairly pleased with nintendos' lineup. First RE4, now all these RPGs.

GoldShadow1April 07, 2004

Hmm... I just looked at a new(I assume) screen shot at IGN, showing a character close-up. It's rather blurry, but it looks.. interesting. It looks almost cel-shaded. I sure hope it is, as that would complement the style of the game well (and, by the way, it looks nothing like the cartooney Wind Waker - it has its own, more realistic style.

Bill AurionApril 07, 2004

I swear I will KILL the next person who gives a negative undertone to the toon-shading used in Wind Waker...I'm sick of hearing it... -__-

mouse_clickerApril 07, 2004

I'm with you, Bill- I'm sick and tired of hearing people talking down to Wind Waker's cel shading. I wish they'd give it a rest.

Also, nice new avatar. face-icon-small-wink.gif

GoldShadow1April 08, 2004

Um, what? I said nothing negative about Wind Waker's graphics. I said they were cartooney. Geez.

Koopa TroopaApril 08, 2004

Cartooney is ALWAYS used in a negative connotation.

BTW I need more info... I can't wait till E3, I need it now! ::curls up into a fetal position::

GoldShadow1April 09, 2004

Then how is it possible that I, in fact, like Wind Waker's graphics?

In any case, I was merely pointing out the differing styles that are possible with cel-shading.

BloodworthDaniel Bloodworth, Staff AlumnusApril 09, 2004

I think koopa's last comment was supposed to be sarcastic.
