Still waiting for your Zelda bonus disc? Come check out what freebies you get with the Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker when you pre-order!

The Wind Waker pre-order bonus disc contains full versions of The Ocarina of Time and its previously unreleased expansion, Master Quest, but the American version also comes with a handful of additional Easter Eggs.

As you can see from the photos, the bonus disc is treated like a full-fledged GameCube game and comes with its own instruction manual to help those unfamiliar with the N64 classic. Also enclosed is a teaser “special preview” manual for the Wind Waker, which is roughly 10 pages in length and introduces some of the game’s characters, mechanics, items and locations. This mini-manual contains spoilers, though knowing Nintendo, everything mentioned is undoubtedly encountered near the beginning of Link’s new quest.

Since N64 games hardly take up 1.5 GB of data, the U.S. disc also contains seven promotional videos. As to be expected, one shows gameplay of The Wind Waker. This contains footage already seen online and on the PGC E3 2002 DVD as well as some brand new footage revealing a few new enemies.

Another video features showcases some hi-quality footage of Amusement Vision’s F-Zero title in action with a bit of E3 demo footage on the side. The following selection is for 1080 Snowboarding, which features little more than a brief glimpse of what was already seen at Cube Clubs. Finally, the disc holds footage of a much improved Wario World, boasting smoother graphics and added Wario commentary along with one or two added features, most notably Wario’s ability to inhale coins (like Kirby).

The other three videos feature games already on store shelves: Metroid Prime, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and a medley of clips from various 1st and 3rd party titles—all of which are already released or featured in the other four videos.

But don’t forget, this disc contains a full N64 game (and a half), so have fun revisiting one of the best games ever made!

Hmmm...

That's good, if old news. But what were those easter eggs mentioned?

Fammy2000February 13, 2003

I think he's talking about the video previews. I want playable demos, darnnit!

nolimit19February 13, 2003

does anyone know if all places that sell preorders get the bonus discs early? i preordered mine on bestbuy.com so do u think i will get the bonus disc ahead of time?

pSYCO-gAMER321February 13, 2003

If we just got some playable demos, like the wind walker, f-zero, etc.
If you still don't own OoT and want wind walker, per-order NOW!

Fammy2000February 13, 2003

I hope we get a similar deal with Majora's Mask one day. I never did beat that game.

Ian SaneFebruary 13, 2003

Gotta love the way Nintendo included that "Game of the Year 1998" logo on the case. The game isn't even for sale in the traditional sense so it's not like that logo is going to convince people to "buy" the game.

It's also nice of Nintendo to blow who the main villian is on the cover of that Wind Waker manual. The mini-manual is a pretty cool idea but it's such a cruel tease to anyone who pre-ordered and doesn't want to know anything about the game. I know I'll read it even though I don't want to.

JollusFebruary 13, 2003

I know that Best Buy is just putting these boxes on to shelves. You just pay for it, and when WW comes out you bring back your ticket and you get some cash off. So if a store is using that setup, it may very well help sell pre-orders by putting "GAME OF THE YEAR!" on the box.

DevilishDudeFebruary 13, 2003

Any word if the disc will be available in canada?

Ian SaneFebruary 13, 2003

"Any word if the disc will be available in canada?"

Well I pre-ordered it so it better be available in Canada. face-icon-small-smile.gif

If you're asking if it's available in Canada right now, I don't know...yet. I'll find out tonight.

If you're asking if it's available in Canada period, then yes it is.

demoncronoFebruary 13, 2003

i ordered it....woo....can't wait.

love the artwork on the back of that booklet.

...ya know, the master quest is like the 2nd quest on the first Zelda, where if you had your name as Zelda....yeah...right?...

Better question - Any idea if the disc will be available in the UK?

Ian SaneFebruary 14, 2003

Well I went to the EB in Langley BC last night and they... didn't have it. They also don't know when they're getting it but will call me when they do because I pre-ordered. And to add insult to injury their Gamecube kiosk is busted and they're the only store in my area with the ZELDA DEMO. ARRRGH! What really sucks is that on Sunday they didn't have the Zelda demo which means in the span of less than a week Nintendo reps brought the new demo in only have some piece of sh!t pull the f*cking controller out at most a few days later.

Interesting note: the Langley EB has completely filled their maximum amount of pre-orders before the promotion has even officially begun.

EyusefFebruary 14, 2003

My Babbage's here in Fayetteville (NC) is claiming that they can't give out the Bonus Discs until those who pre-ordered (which I did, paid in full, in fact) pick their Wind Waker up. Now what in the hell is the point of that? That defeats the purpose of the pre-order incentive, especially considering that there is a Wind Waker preview on the bonus disc. What's the point of getting the bonus disc with OoT & Master Quest & WW preview when you pick up the game, when you'll not be playing any of those, since you'll have WW? Sheer idiocy. And I know they have their discs in, as one of my coworkers is very tight with several employees over there.

Lao-tzuFebruary 14, 2003

Well, I live pretty close to Langly BC (Hi fellow BCer)

And I'm confused about this pre order stuff.

I haven't pre- ordered yet. Can I pre order now and get that bonus disk?

bocumaFebruary 15, 2003

Well, to put rest to any speculation about buying the disk in stores in Canada, I just got mine right now.
I live in Toronto, and the store I went to had a 10 of 5 dollar deposit. I believe they've been selling it since yesterday afternoon.
So I hope anyone that was unsure can be sure now.

Happy Gaming! Now I go away and play Zelda!

Alliedrally68February 15, 2003

I pre-ordered my copy at Software Etc. and they gave me a free strategy guide with the game. Anyone else get this deal?

Grey NinjaFebruary 15, 2003

I'll be at the Lethbridge Future Shop at 11AM tomorrow morning when it opens to pre-order my Zelda. face-icon-small-smile.gif I called them and confirmed it a while back to make sure that I could get the disc, and they are indeed doing the pre-order promotion in Canada. If I am eligible, I would be willing to bet that people living on the North Pole are eligible.

Grey NinjaFebruary 16, 2003

I just got my copy of the bonsud disc today, and I am taking a short break from playing it. I just got to Kakariko Village for the first time in Master Quest. Man that game is hard. face-icon-small-smile.gif

Anyways, I just thought that I would mention that the Canadian version of the bonus disc DOES NOT have the Wind Waker teaser manual in it. We get the instruction book with both French and English, and nothing more. I am actually pretty glad about that, as I am a pretty spoiler sensitive person myself. I must say that I loved the Zelda: Wind Waker and Hot Clips previews on the DVD though. The hot clips commercial should be on TV or something. It rocks.

Ian SaneFebruary 16, 2003

"the Canadian version of the bonus disc DOES NOT have the Wind Waker teaser manual in it. We get the instruction book with both French and English, and nothing more."

THAT SUCKS! Now in theory it's better that I don't get anything spoiled BUT it sucks that we don't get the whole thing. There's no logical reason for it aside from Nintendo of Canada being lazy on the French translation (which I hate and feel is completely useless in BC anyway because no one there speaks French exclusively). It's bad enough that the everything has to look like crap with two languages let alone something being excluded all together.

The worst though was the SSBM manual which was MISSING half of the content.

Oddly enough Nintendo is the only company that does the two languages thing in Canada. All the third parties just give us the American packaging with a French manual thrown in.

By the way I STILL don't have the bonus disc. Today's the 16th! What the hell?

bombchuFebruary 16, 2003

***possible spoilers?***

i just beat the forest temple in the master quest and, as far as i can tell, the only difference between the master quest and the original is the remixing of the dungeons. i was under the impression that there would be at least one new dungeon. does anyone know anything about this?

Chris150February 16, 2003

well...in a sense all the dungeons redone and therefore new....

Grey NinjaFebruary 16, 2003

Actually... heh. I didn't think the difference would be this stunning. I thought there would only be minor differences from all that I read about it. I was quite surprised when I found new things, new enemies, and the whole procedure of getting through a dungeon completely and totally screwed around. I am finding that the game is a completely new experience aside from the story. The story was already perfect, so I am liking this a lot.

I think though, that Master Quest was indeed incomplete. It was intended to be a 64DD game after all, so chances are that a lot of the stuff was cut out. I really can't complain though, as the game was free.

PGC-Agent CooperBilly Berghammer, FounderFebruary 17, 2003

As far as we know, there is no new dungeons. It's just remixed. That's it. I think we stated this in November when we got our imports.

SeanFebruary 18, 2003

I'm still waiting on GameStore to send me mine. Anyone else get there's from IGN already?

Speaking of IGN GameStore, allow me to vent for a moment. Their shipment tracking really sort of sucks: if you lose your item number, you're screwed, basically. You have to type in your email and your item number to get confirmation on shipping, and I've since reformatted my computer, losing the number. The incentive was I got free overnight shipping on Wind Waker, but in the end, it's sort of a headache. Okay, it's not that big of a deal, but it'd be nice if they fixed this minor issue.

It's a bit sad perhaps that I'm so anxious to play a game that I OWN ALREADY...haha...but you have to admit, it's just neat. Master Quest makes it that much sweeter.

SeanFebruary 25, 2003

Zelda Bonus Disc Update, for those who ordered from IGN Gamestore.

IF you ordered your copy, as I did, a few months ago, you won't get your bonus disc, apparently, until Wind Waker ships. A friend of mine and I both ordered ours when IGN was running a Free Overnight Shipping deal, and we have recently gotten confirmation that we will get our bonus discs, but they won't ship out to anyone who preordered the game before IGN knew about the preorder deal until Wind Waker ships.

This sucks for obvious reasons but....

....the benefits are twofold for me: I have too many games on my hands right now to finish anyway and, secondly, I just saved some cash on shipping.

Just letting anyone know who might be in the same "predicament" (not really a horrible fate, however) as I.

Got a news tip? Send it in!
