Today was the Day…

by Max Lake - November 5, 2001, 7:54 pm EST

Back at E3, it was announced Nov. 5th was the GameCube launch date. The upside is that we are now into the final drag!

As some of you probably well know, today was the day that GameCube was supposed to hit stores across North America. E3 2001 gave birth to a date, a launch date for GameCube which was specifically known as November 5th... At Nintendo’s pre-show press conference, Peter Main was asked if they were joking about this date and he said no. It seemed to be set in stone.

Then, this past August at Nintendo's Space World event, this immovable date changed to November 18th. While the news was not necessarily welcome, Nintendo justified the ever-so-slight delay by pointing out that the extra time would allow them to provide even more systems at launch – a total of 700,000.

Now that November 5th has arrived, let us have a moment of silence to remember the original launch date. Actually, it’s not much of a tragedy as the Cube will be here in less than two weeks. Moreover, you poor bastards in Europe have to wait until next year!

Hang on tight, the GameCube is almost upon us!
