THQ drives another stake through the heart of the valiant people fighting to rid Nintendo of it's "kiddie" image.

THQ have announced plans to develop games based on Nickolodeon shows SpongeBob SquarePants and Rocket Power licenses, which will appear on a variety of platforms including GBA and GBC in 2001. Germaine Gioia, THQ Vice President of licensing gushed with excitement: "The unique characters of SpongeBob SquarePants and Rocket Power provide the perfect foundation for games kids of all ages will love to play over and over again. We are delighted to be expanding our relationship with Nickelodeon to include these truly fun and entertaining properties." Kids of all ages? Mister, I think it'll be a cold, dark day before I pilot some "SpongeBob" guy in a game about his Square pants.

This news is hardly surprising; THQ's Rugrats games have done pretty well. Licensing other popular Nickolodeon I assume they're popular, I haven't seen any of these shows. I mean, come on. SpongeBob? I may be missing something, but gimmie Cartoon Network any day! For more info, head over to TNP, who scored this scoop.
