RUMOR ALERT!Holy FRICKIN Cow! That's about all I can muster after reading what could be the rumor of the century over at Magic Box. RUMOR has it that Nintendo & Sega are teaming up to make a RPG which will appear on both the Dreamcast & Gamecube and feature several mascot characters from both companies. The DC version will be called "Sega and Nintendo: the Cosmo Cube" & on GC will be "Nintendo and Sega: the Dream Come True". These titles kinda give a nod to each others' systems, don't they?

Characters allegedly set to appear in the games are as follows. From Sega: Sonic, Nights, Virtual Fighter Kids, super-deformed versions of Virtual ON 'bots AND a brand new character named Ages. On the Nintendo side: Mario, Donkey Kong, Pikachu & other Pokemon, Link and another brand new character, Odnetnin. They report that the games will be released on DC in Summer 2001 and GC during Winter 2001. Pretty specific stuff for a rumor! But Magic Box are usually pretty consistent...

It is interesting stuff but all rumor, so best to remain restrained for now. Still, there is plenty of evidence of Sega & Nintendo getting along nicely of late. The Sonic Team once hypothesized that one day they'd maybe like to do something on "Project: Dolphin" (as we knew it then). Shiggy has given mad props to Samba de Amigo & is also rumored to have had something to do with Seaman. The team-up rumor is perhaps just the natural evolution of these events. Then again, Nintendo has taken a few jabs at DC of late too in claims of how GC will smash all competition. Maybe Sega figures, "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em." But maybe someone at Magic Box has been sniffing too much glue.

In the realm of comics, Marvel & DC have collaborated more than once. That one guy from Homicide popped up on "Law & Order" all the time. Why the hell not a Nintendo & Sega team up? It sounds so crazy, it just might work! Think about it; if it's out for both systems and both have Networking they might very well interact. Not to mention, combining the talent, expertise & mascots of Sega & Nintendo would certainly equal one scalding hot game!

Official announcements will reportedly be made this November, so we won't have to wait too long to see if this one's fact or fiction.
