More good news for Dolphin fans!

Sweet news from the boys over at Tendo Box. Konami is working on a Gradius title for Dolphin!? Here's a mop so you can wipe up that drool puddle you just made. ;) How about more? Namco's rumored to be secretly working on a Xevious title as well. Hell yeah!

For gaming veterans the word "Gradius" is like a frosty Coke™ on a warm summer day. It is a series embedded deep in the industry's roots and a saga that evolves ever so silently from console to console. Whenever a console launches a Gradius title usually shows up in the launch line-up, eagerly awaiting someone to get curious and buy it. Konami's Gradius is a style of space shooting that many have imitated, some more successful than others, but very few with as much appeal. With the impending launch of Playstation 2 Konami is bringing arcade ports of Gradius III & IV on a disc entitled: Myth of Resurrection. These are games that the Japanese gaming community has seen before, but on April 14th they will be able to own them for Playstation 2. So what does all this have to do with Nintendo?

Well, normally we wouldn't post things we just "happen to hear", but this weekend Tendo Box learned from three reliable, unconnected, and distinct sources that a 3D Gradius game by Konami for Dolphin is in significant stages of development. This would mark the first 3D Gradius game and it should be an entirely new adventure (not an arcade port or a 3D rendition of an older title in the series). The name of this game has not been decided yet but the title "Gradius Legacy" was passed on to us so that is what we will refer to it as. Interesting things that floated high among these Dolphin whispers were the fact that this gem will be a graphical powerhouse, showcasing tremendous amounts of special effects in effort to display what Dolphin hardware is capable of achieving early in its conception. For the FMV buff out there, Konami is said to be planning some pretty cool Hollywood quality FMV movie sequences as a reward for successfuly completing a mission. On a final note, the big K intends to have this Gradius title ready for launch, whenever that may be.

On a related note, two of our sources also made mention that Konami may not be the only company with a Dolphin shooter up its sleeves. There's a tremulous rumor making the rounds that Namco is working on a Xevious title to hit the Big N's fishy friend on or around the time of launch. If Namco's mystery game turns out to be truth then there is a possibility that two "could-be-classics" from two stellar developers could arrive for Dolphin within the first three months of its birth. What makes the existence of these titles even more likely are the facts that Konami has confirmed that they will be supporting Dolphin (as they do every Nintendo console) and that Namco's relationship with Nintendo is no longer as sour as it once was.

If you've recovered from the shock of it all, here's the deal. Our sources are telling us that two of the greatest classic shooters the world has ever seen will be making an appearance on the Dolphin. There's definitely excitement brewing and our fingers are crossed…
