A nice walking tour of New Donk City

The next Nintendo Direct will air this Wednesday.

Nintendo has announced a Direct presentation for Wednesday, September 13 at 6 p.m. Eastern time (3 p.m. Pacific, 2300 BST). The presentation will be 45 minutes long and cover Switch and Nintendo 3DS titles including “new details on Super Mario Odyssey”.

You can watch the Nintendo Direct alongside NWR video guy, John Rairdin, then join him for a live discussion after the Direct concludes .

Talkback

Surprised to see the rumours were true of a Direct this week were true.

45 mins sounds good, I hope they show some good stuff.

AdrockSeptember 11, 2017

Come on, Bayonetta 1 and 2!

CaterkillerMatthew Osborne, Contributing WriterSeptember 11, 2017

I honestly forgot Directs were a thing. Or at the very least it was the last thing on my mind as far as whats coming next for Nintendo. I've been so satisfied with Zelda, Sonic Mania, Mario Kart, X Rabbids, Puyo, Cooking indy, Snake Pass and maybe something else I've barely thought about what I'll be playing next.

This whole one major game a month from Nintendo has been working so well! That usual drought that follows a Nintendo system has been completely nonexistent in my gaming world.

KhushrenadaSeptember 11, 2017

45 minutes? That's a pretty substantial direct. Good. I've been hoping for a couple weeks that one might be coming up.

I wonder if my prediction/fear of Mario Odyssey DLC will come true with this Direct. Imagine Metroid 3DS gets a bit in the spotlight before its release this Friday.

Lady Layton should probably be up now. Probably some news on the last Kirby eShop game yet to be revealed for the Kirby anniversary this year. Fire Emblem Warriors will probably get a proper reveal with info on how the Amiibo works for that game. Mario & Luigi remake and Radiant Historia may also get some quick mentions. Probably a new fighter or two for ARMS is revealed and Splatoon gets some news.

The big question: Will this be the Direct Nintendo reveals a Retro surprise and what they've been up to all this time? DKCR3:Cranky Kong's Triple Trouble! Unless they plan on releasing it in the next 6 months, probably not. At this point, they'll probably hold on to that news/reveal for early into the next year.

Will SNES Classic get some time to shine? Probably a quick reminder on its upcoming release.

Will this be the time Nintendo reveals its online plan? Will the long hoped for announcement of a GameCube Virtual Console finally be confirmed? I'd say 50/50 on the first announcement and 1 in 10 chance on the latter.

What else might we have in this Direct?

Mop it upSeptember 11, 2017

The Mario Odyssey info is probably about DLC.

I'm curious if they will give a date for Xenoblade 2. It actually looks like development on the game is going smoothly, so it may indeed launch this December.

TOPHATANT123September 11, 2017

Xenoblade 2 release date here we come, fingers crossed!

I'm also saying this is the last chance for Detective Pikachu, after this it's likely never coming.

nickmitchSeptember 11, 2017

Did we get time frames for the Kirby and Yoshi Switch games?  I remember them being announced with a vague "2018".  I'm thinking maybe more solid time frames for those and maybe more details.

EDIT:  After reading through a certain podcast thread, I sincerely hope they talk about the Switch Online App.

LemonadeSeptember 11, 2017

The service is not launching until next year, I think its too soon for them to be announcing details. Im expecting that to happen in December or January.

StratosSeptember 11, 2017

Still irrationally hoping against hope that we get an announcement for Monster Hunter XX being localized by Nintendo.

Maybe. I have a feeling those are Spring 2018 games. Kind of like the one year 3DS had Triple Deluxe and Yoshi's New Island release in the March - May timeframe. Don't really expect any news on those titles now until there's a Nintendo Direct late December - early January based on previous Direct patterns.

nickmitchSeptember 11, 2017

Makes sense.

ShyGuySeptember 11, 2017

I hope they address the PayDay 2 crisis.

Luigi DudeSeptember 12, 2017

If Smash Bros Switch is going to be first half of 2018 it'll be shown here.  Probably show off a new character like Inklings, or a returning popular veteran like Snake in the reveal trailer.  Or Sakurai could break his own rules and show non-videogame characters are now playable with Goku, Shrek and Hank Hill for maximum trolling.

KhushrenadaSeptember 12, 2017

When is Sakurai finally going to just make himself playable in the game?

I guess because we all know what would happen. All items, Sakurai only (with programmed 80% random tripping) Poke Floats. It would effectively end Smash Bros. as there would be no other way to play and there'd be no where else to take the franchise.

nickmitchSeptember 12, 2017

I kinda assumed Sakurai was the Master Hand.  (Or at least Crazy Hand.)

Order.RSSSeptember 12, 2017

45 Minutes of F-Zero Xwitch basically confirmed!

King Dedede is literally Sakurai.  Dudes a giant troll that Sakurai personally voices himself.  Even making a Sakurai Mii fighter can't as close to the real thing as that.

KhushrenadaSeptember 12, 2017

That's good to know! Maybe that's why I like King Dedede so much and always relish a chance to play him in games like Return to Dreamland and Triple Deluxe. Heck, one of the reasons I'm fond of Kirby 64 is just for some of the quick brief moments to play as Dedede.

Would love to finally have a Smash Switch announcement, even if it were a ways away.

And a Double Cross localization; did I mention I'd like them to announce Double Cross?

EnnerSeptember 13, 2017

Woohoo!  Come on Xenoblade 2 release date. I want to know if I should plan a little staycation this year or the next.

KhushrenadaSeptember 13, 2017

Wish this direct could have aired a couple hours later then I could have joined in an NWR party on Discord instead of working. :(

Time to get those last minute wish predictions in.

Here's hoping for Animal Crossing Switch reveal! F-Zero NX Reveal! New Paper Mario RPG! Phoenix Wright 7! The Great Ace Detective 1 and 2 in English! A Waluigi game! Donkey Kong Country Returns 3 (with Kremlings this time)! Chibi-Robo 4!

BranDonk KongSeptember 13, 2017

DOOM! Wolfenstein! Nintendo is killing it!

MASBSeptember 14, 2017

Who would have thought that Yoshiaki Koizumi would become the main Nintendo Direct spokesman and that he would start looking so comfortable doing it? The man defintely has a way about him. Kind of cool, but not conceited?

CaterkillerMatthew Osborne, Contributing WriterSeptember 14, 2017

I like how in the direct the narrator talks about how Smash Bros fans should take notice and be excited by Samus Returns. Then they go on to hype some big secret enemy that will surely be some form of Ridley.

The seeds have been planted for a new age of Smash speculation.

StratosSeptember 17, 2017

Knowing Sakurai a new Metroid character will be teased for Smash and it will turn out to be Dark Samus or one of the Federation Force fellows.
