Following the news from the Game Awards last night, Nintendo revealed the functionality for the 30th anniversary Zelda Amiibo in Breath of the Wild today.

Each of the four new Amiibo will drop a particular kind of item, along with a chance at a treasure chest:

  • 8-Bit Link will drop barrels, which may contain rupees
  • Ocarina of Time Link will drop meat for healing
  • The Wind Waker Link will drop fish
  • The Wind Waker Zelda will drop plants

Functionality for the three Zelda Amiibo announced at E3 has yet to be announced.

"The Wind Waker Zelda will drop plants"

Read this briefly as "will drop pants."

I wonder when we will find out what the Wolf Link Amiibo will do in Breath of the Wild.

And has Nintendo said if the Switch will support Amiibo?

StratosDecember 04, 2016

They already confirmed what Wolf link would do. Scanning it gives you a wolf partner and the heart level is as high as your heart level was when you completed the wolf challenge dungeon for Twilight Princess HD. By far the coolest amiibo feature to-date.

I had hoped that Ocarina Link would give you Epona as a mount and Wind Waker Link would give you a boat similar to the King of Red Lions boat for navigating rivers and lakes.

Yeah, the implementation of these Amiibo is greatly lacking in comparison with the Wolf, which only makes me happier that I own the Wolf and don't plan to get any of these (well, I did plan on getting the 8-bit Link but not too keen on it now).

I also hope that the actual Breath of the Wild Amiibo grant better stuff.

StratosDecember 06, 2016

That might be why they are being stingy with benefits from currently released amiibo. The BotW figures seem much more ambitious and they want to guarantee they sell well--despite the fact people have a frothing demand for quality, authentic Nintendo merch.

I still picked up the 8-bit Link just because I had it pre-ordered and like the 8-bit design line, but it does guarantee I would get the others.

I'm just glad it's something I don't care about.

StratosDecember 08, 2016

Mop it up should get her title changed to something pessimistic about amiibo functionality ;)

Well, we don't normally take requests......

but, in this case, I'm willing to make an exception!

StratosDecember 08, 2016

I feel like this is justice for some old title I had which was brought on by her at sometime. I'll just take this as a victory...

If only your titles were half as creative as your BOXBOY 3 titles.

Nah, you're thinking of somebody else.
