Seems like a great value proposition compared to Ultra Smash last year.

It seems that way. I just wanted a proper Strikers game. I feel kind of put off at this announcement.

This was a strange announcement to me. There's already a full Mario Gold and Mario Tennis game for the 3DS. Now, they are jamming that together along with soccer and baseball (Strikers and Sluggers) with horse racing (Mario Kart knockoff). I question how full these experiences are going to be and how they will compare to the past iterations of these franchises. Strange. As I recall, the only thing similar is Mario Sports Mix on Wii and it wasn't received that enthusiastically either.

Yeah the Golf and Tennis look to play the same as the 3DS Mario golf and tennis games I already have. Clearly built off of the same engine. But with no online features probably. The 3DS Mario Golf online features are fantastic. Soccer looks interesting.
The horse-racing is a wild card. Is it a take-off of pocket card jockey or a full-on racing action game? I couldn't tell.

Is this from Square-Enix or Camelot?

I wish this were on Wii U so that I could play local multiplayer. :(

Camelot is doing the golf and tennis, but we're still trying to track down who's doing the other three games.
