And there was legitimate rejoicing.

Nintendo has announced the date for the next Nintendo Direct.

The video presentation will air Thursday, November 12 at 2 p.m. Pacific time, 5 p.m. Eastern, and 2200 GMT. The video promises "updates on upcoming Wii U and 3DS releases".

Keep it locked to Nintendo World Report for all of the news and reaction.

UPDATE: Japan will have a Direct on the 13th at 7 a.m. local time, and Mr. Morimoto - introduced in the last Japanese Direct at the end of May - will handle hosting duties.

Talkback

SorenNovember 10, 2015

Prediction: we'll get Splatoon, Smash and maybe Mario Maker/Mario Kart 8 DLC news. They'll probably talk about Affordable Space Adventures' update as well. No new retail games, maybe 1 download title for Xmas.

AT LONG LAST

CompeauNovember 10, 2015

Twilight Princess HD!

TOPHATANT123November 10, 2015

Show me the goods Sakurai, I pray night and day for my boy Professor Layton, but just about anyone would be fine with me.

Is it that the direct is only for EU and US and not JP? If so the likelihood we get new game announcements is lower, but the likelihood of localisations being announced is higher. I wanna hear about Rhythm Heaven, Shin Megami Tensei 4:Final, and for the love of slimes something about the western revival of Dragon Quest. Monster Hunter X is out this month in Japan and the dlc for Monster Hunter 4 has finished this month in the west. So my guess would be now that they think they've sold everything they can of 4 we get an avalanche of Monster Hunter localisation announcements.

michaelbaysuperfan616November 10, 2015

Is Monster Hunter even popular here though? I thought it was more of a Japanese thing. I could be wrong but I never heard of it before recently and I don't know of a single person who plays it. I don't expect much on Wii U, maybe as mentioned Twilight Princess HD but that is all I can think of, unless they happen to have some surprises up their sleeve.

BiteThePillowNovember 10, 2015

'Tis bittersweet news. Nintendo is moving on from Iwata  :'(
But now we will finally hear about the Metroid/Animal Crossing crossover, Happy Space Pirate Village!
Hey, a guy can dream.

Ian SaneNovember 10, 2015

We've needed this post-Iwata direct for a while now.  Don't know what to expect but I'm glad that we're hearing from Nintendo at least one for time this year.

I would almost believe Iwata not being dead over news of a Waluigi Amiibo.

ForgottenPearlNovember 10, 2015

It says the Direct is about UPCOMING releases, so I guess the Smash Ballot will remain a mystery.

Nowhere near Japanese levels of popularity, but 4U did sell over a million units in the West and was well received by most people.

EnnerNovember 10, 2015

Hurrah! Even if it's only a check-in on announced titles, I'm happy to see this.

Mop it upNovember 10, 2015

This could be the final Nintendo Direct, replaced by something similar next year.

In the investors meeting they did say something about how they had some unannounced titles in the works, so who knows, one or more of those could be mentioned here. Twilight Princess HD seems likely. I also expect some more info on upcoming games like Xenoblade X, Mario Tennis, Star Fox, etc., which may show some new details. I also wouldn't be surprised if some more DLC is revealed, and the results of the Smash ballot may be shown. And since this is on a Thursday then there may be one of those things that gets announced and immediately available on the eShop.

SonofMrPeanutNovember 10, 2015

Two things I'm expecting right off the bat:

1.  Word of the Badge app's release in North America.
2.  A final name and release date for Project Shield, seeing as it was listed for 2015 as recently as Late-October.

WahNovember 10, 2015

I want to know who those 6 new smash characters will be!

TOPHATANT123November 10, 2015

So it is happening in Japan as well, my expectations have increased greatly.

LemonadeNovember 10, 2015

Im very happy with this news.

Twilight Princess HD, please.

ShyGuyNovember 10, 2015

I have missed this.

KhushrenadaNovember 11, 2015

The anticipation begins. Why couldn't it be tomorrow when its a holiday instead of during work though? C'mon Nintendo. Work with me not against me.

azekeNovember 11, 2015

Why couldn't it be not 4 AM for me?

King of TwitchNovember 11, 2015

Calling it now: The NX will be called the iWata, some dumb new fitness app announced where it will count your steps after you velcro-strap the 2DS around your groin, then they'll announce "Zelda Delay Maker" for Wii U where you can practice making Zelda games then send it to your friends 2.5 years after the fact, finally, DK Jungle Beat 2 will use the Gamepad for a drum, followed by a cell phone video of Reggie eating every banana at the grocery store and throwing up.

WahNovember 11, 2015

I'd buy that! ;)

The above game is actually TP HD and will be a slight blip on the radar.

I hope they do a tribute to Iwata, maybe they are saving that for The Game Awards

These Directs are basically advertisements.

Using someone's death to incite sympathy for a company and their products would be tasteless and cynical.

Iwata was a major part of the Directs and well beloved by most who watched them.  Nothing wrong with giving a tribute to him since this will be the first Direct since his death.

Tasteless and cynical would be if after the tribute they announce they're now selling Iwata Amiibos that'll unlock exclusive content in Twilight Princess HD and Star Fox Zero.

Nice to see Cesaro getting a job at a place that respects him.

There's about 20,000 things going at once in the runup to the Direct, and it sort of slipped the mind. We do have all the relevant videos on NWR TV.
