Dinosaurs show legs and feathers and the Amiibo train keeps rolling
US sales results have been released by the NPD Group for August, and Nintendo will be looking for a September turnaround.
In the software charts, the only game on Nintendo systems to reach the top 10 was June's Lego Jurassic World at #5 (combined formats). The 3DS and Wii U were the 2nd and 3rd best selling version of the game, while Splatoon is now at 600,000 copies sold (physical + eShop).
Hardware continues to be a struggle. Early estimates have the Wii U at 43,000 units sold, while Nintendo confirmed to VentureBeat that the 3DS is up 30% year to date. This translates to approximately 77,000 units sold in August. In happier news, US Amiibo sales are now at 7 million.
Nintendo is banking on Super Mario Maker and Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer in September, both of which have risky hardware bundles in the US.
