The release date for the first Shovel Knight expansion will be announced soon, as the pack has finished development.
Yacht Club Games announced on Twitter this morning that development of Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows wrapped the night before:

The expansion will be distributed for free to all existing Shovel Knight owners. Once the content clears Nintendo lotcheck, the update will go live. Yacht Club has promised that the expansion will also be included in the physical copies of the game set to ship on October 13.
