Drop a dollar and you can use the 3DS as a controller without owning Smash 3DS.

Hidden in Sunday's Smash Brothers update was an option to use a 3DS as a Wii U controller without the 3DS game.

The application, available on the 3DS eShop for $0.99, replicates the functionality of the 3DS to Wii U control option. Owners of the 3DS version do not need to download this application.

Sound-breaking levels of Nintendo-ing it.

It's amusing and befuddling, but I'm glad the option is there.

Yeah!  Who wouldn't want to risk damaging the stick on their 3DS for no reason?

8-player Smash, man... Not ideal, but not everyone has seven other controllers. Given the choice, I'd rather use a 3DS than a sideways Wii remote.

They're charging for the use of controllers you own?!

Damn Canadian Devil :ph:

Wow, I guess there really is nothing they won't monetize.

Well they technically made it $39 cheaper as before this you could use the 3DS as a controller if you had a copy of Smash for 3DS.  Now you just need to pay $.99.
See, they are actually saving you money!
