The long-awaited 3DS and Wii U game is close to release.

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse completed Nintendo's Pre-Check according to developer WayForward, meaning that it is close to release on Wii U and 3DS.

First announced for 3DS in late 2012, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse has been long delayed, originally expected for a 2013 release. At E3 2014, WayForward announced that the 3DS game would also be coming to Wii U.

WayForward promised more info soon, so hopefully an exact release date is coming shortly.

Finally! The game looks like a ton of fun. Nice to hear that it is coming out soon. Although I was a tad disappointed when I realized I was confusing this game with the one that was funded through Kickstarter...

OH HAY LOOK SHANTAY

To show how long this game has been in development, it's been on the front page of Nintendo Power.

At least Shantae's trip to development hell is explainable - losing staff that went on to Yacht Club Games, working on the Adventure Time/Regular Show/Transformers 3DS games - as opposed to, say, Final Fantasy XV.

I've been waiting for this for so darned long. XD  The little genie that could has really built up her street cred and has quite the following.

One of my more cynical friends has gotten accustomed to saying "Too bad she's become the mascot of a website designed to take your money and hide behind constant delays", which is... really unfair. still, we are at the one year anniversary of this game's sequel's kickstarter campaign. A kickstarter campaign that in a way, spoils this game's ending.

This game's ending has been spoiled for over a year and it isn't even out yet.

Also, I am REALLY digging the inti-creates art for this game, even if it isn't exactly reflected in the sprite work.
