Plus a new way to navigate the eShop!

Nintendo has released a new update for the Wii U that allows full system transfers for the first time. The new option will be added to the System Settings menu and will enable users to transfer all software and data to a new console.

Version 5.1.0 will also allow users to navigate through the eShop using any Wii U compatible controller and adds general system stability improvements and other minor adjustments.

As usual, updates to your Wii U system can be received automatically if your console is connected to the internet.

More information on the Wii U system transfer feature can be found here.

Hmm, I wonder if the system transfer is in preparation for a new model with more internal memory.

Enabling any Wii U controller to navigate the eshop is interesting. No, I don't think Nintendo will release a GamePad-less Wii U set. I think it's more out of convenience than anything. Unless a game requires the GamePad, I always use the Pro Controller.

The rumor mill (always churnin') is a Smash Bros console.

Just think - Smash Bros. exclusive decor, digital copy of the game, GameCube adapter and two GCN controllers.

It's great to finally be able to use alternate controllers in the EShop. Nintendo thinking people will actually buy more than Wii U, though, is...optimistic.

FINALLY. I've been sitting on a Zelda Wii U ever since it came out. Now I can finally transfer my stuff over from my basic model I got at launch.

Ah the Synergy of those two posts.

Anyway,  an internal Harddrive SKU would be nice.  I think we all know that a Smash Bros Console is coming out.  It be interesting if they just integrated the GCN Ports in again.

If it included an internal hard disc drive (or at least an empty bay) and the GameCube controller ports, I'd consider buying that model. Also, if it played GameCube discs, I would definitely buy that model... Even if I was forced to do so in Wii Mode.

Not a proud man but I probably would too.  Kick my Wii to the curb.

"That what you get for not being Indigo."

Though Indigo to match my Gamecube, matte plastic etc., with a little handle yeah...

People aren't buying a lot of Wii Us, but they make an update for people who buy a second one to do a transfer?  Give me folders already.......

isn't this something that should have been there at launch?

The way the update was worded by Nintendo, at first I thought it would let us copy individual save files. Will I ever have the most basic right of being able to backup my saves?
