Coming to Japan on July 25.

Nintendo will be releasing a battery pack with a larger capacity for the Wii U GamePad in Japan on July 25 for 3,150 yen.

Though third party batteries have recently become available, Nintendo doesn't want to be left out of the party. Their 2550mAh battery hold a charge that lasts 5-8 hours, an improvement over the included 1500mAh batteries that last 3-5 hours.

I don't need it, but it's good to see a first party official release of this battery.

Seeing as how I sit right next to an outlet I have no need at all for this. I'm just fine playing plugged into the wall.
I just want Nintendo to make a better battery for the 3DS. I don't trust Nyko. Every Nyko product I've ever owned was a piece of bleepity bleep.

The nyko one was delayed for months and now is $50 on amazon instead of 29.99 and its hard to find at GameStop , sold out online and practically impossible to find in store .
I hope this comes to US, I can't imagine why not sell this worldwide . They can limit it to online purchases

I'm glad Nintendo is releasing this albeit only in Japan for now. Even when it comes to the United States, I'm going to hold off for two or three years for when my current battery starts holding less of a charge.

I will be buying the Wii Remote charger as soon as it's brought over here.

I don't' understand all of the hate............ I have the Nyko Battery pack for the 3DS since that battery came out.....Still works just fine...didn't blow up or anything (mind you the charge stand it came with went kaput....so I can't say that was 5 star material).

I might have just gotten lucky though.....

I got one of those Nyko ones off amazon for $24.99 (Prime shipping), available right now.....

I'll let you know if my Gamepad meltsĀ  ;)

Getting one of these. Though I'm near an outlet when gaming, I'm not a fan of being tethered. Only times I can tolerate wires is for either classic games or multiplayer PC games like Ragnarok Battle Offline.

I am of the theory that as the Wii U era goes on in the coming years that Nintendo will release revisions of the Gamepad in a similar manner to their handheld consoles considering that the Wii U is technically hybrid of a home and portable console. This means that features and battery life will improve for the gamepad.
