The Playstation 2 series is getting the HD treatment on the Wii U.

Yakuza 1&2 HD, a remake of the Playstation 2 titles, is set to hit Wii U from Sega on August 8. The game will be available as physically for 5,229 yen and digitally on the eShop for 4,700 yen.

The game is set in Tokyo and features a realistic environment that players can explore fully. Players can spot many familiar landmarks and enter various buildings. Unique to the Wii U version of the game, players will be able to access a map on the Wii U GamePad and make use of Off-TV play.

A special Iwata Asks with Nagoshi, the producer of the series will be available soon.

I always hear about this series and am interested in it.  I would love to to get an HD compilation of the first 2 games localized for the west.

I hope that the discussion encompasses more than just Yakuza. Not that I don't want them to talk about it, just hoping that there will be mentioning F-Zero (GX) to some degree. Would be nice to get some acknowledgement from Iwata. This might also be a good starting point into Yakuza for Nintendo fans, especially if they release 3+ on Wii U.

I am watching japanese ND right now. First 15 minutes were Iwata and Nagoshi showing off their bling and talking about the game a bit.

Game... Game looks like an uprezzed PS2 port.

Thanks... Iwata...

You know, speaking of F-Zero GX, they DID start out the whole direct by mentioning the fact that they had worked together previously on the game. At that moment, I was about to crap my pants and was expecting a new F-Zero colabo title...but that didn't happen.

I dunno. I'll probably buy this. I never played any of the games in the series before and it looks interesting. Even if it IS just an upscaled Playstation 2 game.

They also namedropped NCL designer who created F Zero in Animal Crossing segment in the previous Direct.

From what i understand it's cheaply made non open world GTA praising japanese thug life.

Seems like I tried a bit of a Yakuza game once. Surprisingly large emphasis on brawler style combat.

I just found out they name dropped F-Zero! If I was watching live and understood Japanese I would have went ballistic for all of .4 seconds.

The fact that it was even mentioned gives me hope for the future.

So where on the Miiverse is the Operation Rainfall style operation happening? The Sonic forums?

TJ SpykeMay 21, 2013

I've never had any interest in the Yakuza series, but it's very popular in Japan. So I hope it will do well there and help the Wii U sell better.
