Wii U Console, GamePad Repair Costs Revealed

Do you want your hardware repaired out of warranty? Here's your invoice.

The Wii U repair costs have been revealed to be $175 for the console itself, and $85 for the GamePad, according to Nintendo World Report staff members who have had their systems in for repair. The $175 cost for the Wii U Console was specific to the Deluxe model.

Since the GamePad is not for sale at retail at this time, aside from being bundled with the console itself, one can only speculate what the price will be to customers. The $85 component cost being printed (and then reversed due to warranty) on repair invoices point to a retail price starting at $99 and then going upwards from there.

Obviously, All Wii U systems are under warranty for at least a year unless an owner breaks that warranty. These costs will be more meaningful as the system ages past its first year.

So these were physical repairs? To what extent does the warranty cover?

KITT 10KDecember 05, 2012

If it works like insurance does for a cell phone then physical damage to the screen, (such as a crack on it), will void it I think.

Kytim89December 05, 2012

People are actually selling the Gamepad by itself for about $200 to $220 dollars.

Unless some freak accident happens, I should be okay as far as repairs go since I take really good care of my consoles, controllers, and games. I wish Nintendo would sell the Wii U GamePad AC adapter in stores as I can't keep an eye on those all the time, especially when I'm into a game. I love my cats, but they can be such sluts sometimes. In a bind, it would be comforting to know I could just pick up a new 1st party AC adapter at Walmart in the dead of night.

Those prices are pretty high. Ideally, they should be priced based on the repair being done, there is no way that simply replacing the disc drive costs Nintendo $175. That's the price of a full-on system replacement.

The repairs were for a bad video card and a non-responsive trigger button, respectively.

I wonder if one tried really hard if they could order a second game pad direct from Nintendo... :D

Tell us how that goes..

ShayminDecember 06, 2012

If someone who got their Gamepad stolen can't order one, no amount of UncleBobery will get you a second gamepad. (Source)

Unclebobery should be a thing.

UncleBobRichard Cook, Guest ContributorDecember 06, 2012

Oh, it is.

Just ask your mom.

That was premature ejaculation. And I thought we were never to speak of it again.

lol.

EasyCureDecember 06, 2012

I'm glad you've learned to laugh about it. I told you it was nothing to be ashamed of. It's a problem 4 out of 5 regular forum goers have.

4 out of 5 forum goers experience premature ejaculation with your mother?

She told me I was special.

Ok the video card cost I can understand, but that much just for a button?! Shame on you Nintendo.

They replaced the whole GamePad since it'd be faster than repairing and it's under warranty (so Zach didn't actually *pay* $85).

I find it slightly more concerning that you discuss these stats with your mother.  So, fellow forum goer, are you in the 20% or the 80%?

Oh. Well that's a relief. I was convinced there that Nintendo had stepped onto Sony's path.
