The 1984 beat-em-up's remake will be available to Wii U owners.

A remake of Jordan Mechner's Karateka will be heading to the Wii U, according to the game's ESRB page.

It was previously known that a remake of the game was going to be released, but we did not know it was coming to Wii U. The game is being developed by Jordan Mechner, the creator of Prince of Persia and the developer of the original Karateka.

In the game you take on the role of a Japanese warrior attempting to rescue a princess. The ESRB page lists the game as rated T for teen.

The Karateka remake has not been officially announced for Wii U.

Oh man, total nostalgia trip. When I was in the 3rd grade, the cool kids stayed in for recess to play this on the classroom Commodore 64. 90s kids can get out.

I bought this for the Atari 800XL when it first came out and beat it (yes, I actually beat it, it's not a part of my backlog).  The final boss, Akuma, is really cool...it'll be interesting to see what they do with the remake.  Finally taking him out and completing the game is one of my favorite childhood memories.
