The future just got a little less distant.

Today Nintendo of America announced a release date for the next installment in the Professor Layton series, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future.

The game will be releasing on September 12, 2010, eight days prior to the previously known launch date of September 20.  It places Luke and the Professor in a new mystery in which they recieve a letter from the future, and as a result set off on a journey to prevent London from falling into chaos.

Unwound Future features the same blend of storytelling, exploration and puzzle solving that the best-selling series has become known for. Over 165 puzzles are included.

Am I missing something - there's no Professor Layton in this press release... :(

Guh... never mind - that release list is for Europe.
I'm going to have to import Last Window, aren't I?

Considering we still haven't received Trace Memory R, that is possible.

I've been meaning to buy the Layton games, I played a demo at Walmart (I think it was for the first one) and thought it was pretty good.

You could do that, or you could walk around your town with a book of brain teasers, stopping every three minutes to solve a puzzle that is preferably vaguely related to something in your surroundings. Ah, that reminds me of a puzzle!

The charm and awesomeness of Professor Layton games is completely lost on someone... :(

Not on me!  I love them, and I can't wait for this game.

I'm really interested in the Spectre's Flute, or whatever the next one is called, since it has the RPG mini-game that's supposedly really in-depth.  If it's localized, I wonder if it will be as a DS or a 3DS game.

Isn't there a Professor Layton movie as well?  And I read the 5th game in the series is going on 3DS--can't wait for that one.

I own the first two, but can never get around to playing them since I have so many other games to finish.

Can you guys who have played it and loved it convince me that I should play it sooner than later?

Yep, Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva came out in Japan last year and will be released on DVD/Blu-ray Disc in the UK this September.
