The 3D remakes for Final Fantasy V and VI ran into technical problems, but might see a return on 3DS.

The Final Fantasy V and VI DS remakes are currently on hold, according to Square Enix's Shinju Hashimoto in an interview with SiliconEra.

Hashimoto said the two games ran into technical problems, and with the advent of the 3DS, Square Enix decided to temporarily pull the plug on development.

As for a 3DS release, Hashimoto laughed and said "no decision has been made."

He went on further: "Rather than creating [Final Fantasy] V or VI for the current DS we want to take a look to see how 3DS does, how it evolves, and then make a decision."

Technical problems my ass, the GBA handled both games fine. I don't mind them moving them to 3DS, but they shouldn't try and claim technical problems as the reason.

GBA had a different graphical interface.  They were ports of games from the early 90s.  This is a complete remake of each of these games.    You can't compare a port of a game to the GBA and a remake of a game on the DS, at least technically speaking.

They should be there near launch with FFV and by Summer with FFVI then they can have the Xmas all Sony gamers have been waiting for with the remake FFVII for 3DS for it's 1 year anniversary ;).

My heart would stop if Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9 were to be remade for the 3DS. One might wonder why I want these games on the 3DS and my answer is that the technical power and the 3D nature of the 3DS allows a new experience for classic games.

if final fantasy 7 came out for 3ds, it would probably shut some people the fuck up

What would be helarious is if Square Enix revealed the Final Fantasy 7 remake at a Sony press conference but the remake is actually for the 3DS. Sony fanst would be incredibly pissed off.

@ The Perm

It is in this forums best decision to hope for a FF7 remake for the 3DS so that I can shut up about it. :cool;  Then again, once it did I would start on FF8 and eventually FF9.  :cool;

If someone is going to remake 7, I want it on the PS3 in full tens of million dollar budget glory.

I would rather see a fresh Final Fantasy on 3DS. How bad ass would it be if they pulled a Dragon Quest and decided to put Final Fantasy 15 on it?

As for the FF 7 remake, how about we have a big budgeted remake for the PS3 and a enhanced 3DS remake. The purist coud then have the normal version on PSN or their PS1 collection. Every one leaves happy.

Final Fantasy 15 for the 3DS, or even the wii would be good. There are rumors that Square wants to return to the Final Fantasy roots like they with part nine for this generation. However, one Square developer noted that the older designs such as building like inns that were prevalent in the early part of the series would hard to pull off with the HD consoles. What better way to return to the roots than with the 3DS, or wii. Having the game on wii would sybolize the rift between Square and Nintendo is fully healed because a new numbered Final Fantasy was released for a Nintendo console.
