UPCOMING POKÉMON BATTLE REVOLUTION NAMED AS FIRST WI-FI GAME FOR WII

Nintendo Reveals Strong Second-Quarter Lineup for Wii, Nintendo DS

REDMOND, Wash., March 7, 2007 – Wii™ owners of all ages have discovered the fun of playing with a group of friends in the same room. Now for the first time players can compete with one another near and far with Pokémon® Battle Revolution, a game of remarkable firsts:

  • the first Wii game to include Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection play

  • the first Pokémon game for Wii

  • the first game to link Wii and the hand-held Nintendo DS™

  • and the first Wii game that can be controlled using Nintendo DS

When Wii and Nintendo DS are linked, players can use their Nintendo DS units as controllers or import characters from the upcoming Nintendo DS games Pokémon® Diamond Version or Pokémon® Pearl Version. Pokémon Battle Revolution launches on June 25 exclusively for Wii and brings a dramatic new chapter to the Pokémon franchise, which has sold more than 155 million units worldwide. Pokémon Battle Revolution also serves as one of the standouts in Nintendo's second-quarter launch lineup, which the company revealed today in conjunction with the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.

Pokémon Battle Revolution will be joined by Super Paper Mario™, the first Mario™ game for Wii; Mario Party® 8, a multiplayer party game; and Big Brain Academy™, a brain-training game that builds on the phenomenal success of the Nintendo DS brain games. These will add to the ever-growing library of Wii games, which will total more than 50 by the end of June. Nintendo DS fans will see the arrival of Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version, two surefire smash-hits.

"With strong third-party support, Wii and Nintendo DS have games on the way for both casual and veteran gamers," says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "Our new ways to play have attracted millions of players around the world. This lineup demonstrates our commitment to leading the industry with the future of video gaming."

Third-party publishers also have stepped up their support of both Wii and Nintendo DS, recognizing these systems as the hottest things going in the video game industry. The list of games for April, May and June includes the following:

A game a month sits fine with me, but I'm pretty disappointed that Prime 3 isn't on there...My guess is on an October release now... =(

(Plus, I'm wondering if there are any secret releases that couldn't make it onto that list because of the whole stock thing...)

FAHK

BWii ISN'T ON THE LIST

THIS MUST MEAN NINTENDO IS CANCELLING WI-FI

Is this the first we've heard of the DS browser or was this announced before?

Dark_SlothMarch 07, 2007

Hmmm... Sounds alright. I'm excited about pokemon diamon and paper mario.
Its a real drag that theres no Metroid Prime.. I've been thirsting that game. They told me launch title, and now i still don't have it.
Oh snap.. the browser for the DS. I forgot all about that thing. Right. No way i'm getting that.

MaryJaneMarch 07, 2007

I forgot Pokemon was being released so soon for the DS.

June isn't too long to wait for the first WiFi Wii game I suppose. Plus it's pokemon, which I love. The other thing to look at is that is simple and turn based, which isn't going to really prove how strong the Wii servers are.

DjunknownMarch 07, 2007

With Metroid Prime 3 noticeably absent has me thinking what's going to happen for the fall/holiday season. Will they go for the 1-2-3 combo known as Mario Galaxy, SSB Brawl and Metroid Prime 3? Or is one of them going to eventually slip into 2008?

Nintendo tries again with connectivity. I'm interested if it will take off this time, or just remain a sideshow...

Pirates of the Caribean 3? I thought they were waiting until next year for that....

IceColdMarch 07, 2007

Whoa, the DS's lineup is surprisingly barren. After all its successes, third parties are still not fully supporting it. I suspect at the new E3 we'll get tonnes of great game announcements for both DS and Wii though.

I've said it for a while now; Metroid in the summer, Mario Galaxy for holiday 2007, and Smash Bros next year.

I was thinking the same, and I don't see Nintendo releasing all these three, my guess is Brawl is the one who is going to get delayed. I'm really hoping for a price cut by the end of the year, since MP3 is basically the game that will make me buy the console.

DS browser seems interesting, but has there anything been said about the price? I don't see myself paying more than $10 or maximum $15 for that.

NeoThunderMarch 07, 2007

I might buy a copy of pokemon DS and Wii just to support Wi-Fi, even though I never really liked the pokemon games I played.

Altho, the actual battling of the pokemon I seen of video for the Wii version does look nicer to look at.

I wonder since this usher's in DS/Wii connectivity, if Nintendo will release the mythical "DS Download Station" channel on Wii.

chaingunsofdoomMarch 09, 2007

A double-dip of DS Transformers? More robots is always good unless they're identical games with different box art.

that Baby guyMarch 09, 2007

I think Super Mario Galaxy will be an August release, like Super Mario Sunshine was. Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles was missing from both lists, I imagine they are waiting to finish developing online, at least for the Wii, but the DS version was originally planned to be released last year, I believe. I wonder what the hold-up is.

Ian SaneMarch 09, 2007

I long for the day when the third party support is strong enough that stuff like Shrek the Third isn't being mentioned in Nintendo press releases. Like they'll have enough games that they either have to have a huge list or they leave the crap out and just show the highlights. This looks like a list where they're mentioning every game they can think of to give the impression of a healthy release schedule. This supposed healthy Wii third party support isn't showing up on the release list yet. That Wii schedule looks remarkably Cube like.

What's this "Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon"? That sounds interesting.

that Baby guyMarch 09, 2007

Well, just remember they left all of March off of this list, so it's actually a little bigger than it seems.

Edit: In fact, I realized they blazed over this gem, and left it off the list.

Kororinpa, the puzzle game, is coming out in about two weeks, and here, I had no idea!

CericMarch 09, 2007

What is "Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon"?

Also on the new Pokemon Wii game if they have the mini-games like in the original Colliseum(sp?) I'm there. If not I'm going to wait. Though I do like the idea of controlling the game from the DS as not to muck up my view with an interface. I'm hoping that this style will be an option for menu driven games and games that don't take advantage of the Wiimote. Though especially menu driven games. Also maybe later the VC.

Though upon thinking about it I would like Voice Command for Pokemon as well.

Also I hope Transformers the game is good.

Edit: *nudge nudge* Ian this is it.
Actually looks interesting in its own way.

KDR_11kMarch 09, 2007

Careful, what the corporate types consider a highlight isn't what you consider a highlight.

Remember what Hudson did to Bomberman for 360? Natsume did the same thing to Harvest Moon.

You mean beast-raped the hell out of it?

As for the list...

MP3 pushed to Oct to add ONLINE MULTIPLAYER WITH VEHICLES!!!!

MEGATOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNN!!!!

And the lack of SSBB would sadden me except that I want them to take as long as possible with it so it won't suck ass.

Whaaaa? Hardly the same thing!

I predict SSB:Brawl will slip to 08. The lack of info makes me think they are being perfectionists.

And like I said, I am SO perfectly fine with that.

This also means that many of the games announced for 2007 will not make it, unless they reveal the dates at this year's E3.

NinGurl69 *hugglesMarch 09, 2007

E3 is dead.

Ask your local Gamestop to find out when the games will be out.

E3 is dead.

BloodworthDaniel Bloodworth, Staff AlumnusMarch 09, 2007

There's still plenty of time for all three games to come out. All they announced were Q2 dates. If Q3 comes without Mario, Metroid, or Brawl, then there's a good chance one of them is getting bumped. But Q2 tends to be dead anyways.

My prediction still stands as of now.

I see Metroid being a late summer/early fall release, followed by Mario in an late fall/early release and finally Brawl, if they decide to release it this year, late winter/end of the year.

NeoThunderMarch 11, 2007

They still need to have more than just one title that supports Wi-Fi. I think it would look a lot better if when Pokemon BR was released, it had other Wi-Fi titles backing it up showing that online gaming is being supported....1st and 3rd parties.

King of TwitchMarch 11, 2007

Good to see Activision keeping the movie franchise prostitution business going face-icon-small-cool.gif

Hopefully Q3 looks more exciting... Mario Strikers: Charged Online and Space Station Tycoon plz?

Whatever happened to Project HAMMER?

Bill AurionMarch 13, 2007

H.A.M.M.E.R. looked really early when they showed it for the first time, so it'll either come out late in the year or be pushed back to next...
