DS sales have now reached 500.000, with Super Mario 64 DS and WarioWare Touched being the most popular launch games.

According to NoE, DS sales have been outstanding in Europe since the launch. By Easter Saturday over 500.000 units had been sold, which amounts to 77% of the consoles that were shipped to retailers. Many stores report that they’re out of stock, but new deliveries are on the way.

As for game sales, Super Mario 64 DS sold over 250.000 units followed closely by WarioWare Touched. There are no reports on how well the other launch games sold.

Jim Merrick, Senior Director European Marketing, had this to say:

"The launch of Nintendo DS in Europe has been a huge success. European gamers have embraced the Nintendo DS and have left no doubt that it is the new must have console! Nintendo set out to create a new way of hand-held gaming, offering an innovative and enjoyable experience and with the new Nintendo DS, we have certainly accomplished this. With many more great games launching soon, sales of Nintendo DS will just keep growing."

Now we have to wait a few days to see if the DS is selling better in Europe than the PSP is selling in America. face-icon-small-tongue.gif

Of course it is! Retailers have spoken, PSP is a big flop. I doubt it will even come to Europe now, Sony are just bleeding too much money! LMAO they'll probably release it then pull the plug right away, arrogant fools, ah but i'm not complaining, go Nintendo!

don't count the PSP out... this "war" has yet to begin. Every day i hear people chatting about the PSP. There's no doubt about it: this thing is gaining momentum. hopefully a strong E3 showing by nintendo will lay the psp to rest, however.

I agree, while the lackluster launch is good news for Nintendo, the PSP is far from dead. Sony did a horrible job of hyping the product up outside of the hardcore gaming community. They didn't even start running commercials till a week or two ago. My 16 year old sister saw one and had no clue what it was or what it did. Word of mouth is starting the spread though and the advertisements are perking interest. It may not really pick up steam till the holidays but if it can survive till then (which I'm almost certian it will) and build a decent library of games sales should pick up substantially, and it could become the new "it" item ala the ipod.

So the DS has had some good news lately... but it's not out of the woods yet. They need to get a strong lineup going, along with some more mature and mainstream games (say what you will but games like Yoshi's Touch and Go and Kirby aren't gonna keep the DS afloat) along with the internet gaming on some popular titles (such as metroid and mario kart). Here's hoping that happens...
