Trine 2 is a critically acclaimed game, and it is coming to the Wii U eShop with exclusive content. Excite!
Trine 2 is coming to Nintendo platforms for the very first time at the Wii U launch, courtesy of the Director's Cut, which will hit the eShop.
Trine 2 is a gorgeous side-scrolling take on the concept of The Lost Vikings, the overlooked '90s game from Blizzard. In the game, you switch between three characters: Amadeus the wizard, Zoya the thief, and Pontius the knight. Each character has their own abilities and control uniquely as you solve a variety of physics-based puzzles and fight off enemies. The wizard can interact with certain objects and create boxes to move around the environment and solve puzzles. The thief shoots arrows and uses a grappling hook to move around the environment. The knight is an offensive powerhouse, with a bash attack and a projectile-deflecting shield.
The demo at E3 2012 didn't show too much of the game, just an early level with simple puzzles. What it did show off was how the Wii U GamePad was used. You could tap the screen to perform certain actions, such as the thief's arrows and grapple, the wizard's box-making ability, and the knight's attacks. Additionally, other abilities were usable by tapping icons on the touch screen.

The game looks absolutely gorgeous on both the TV and the GamePad. As a matter of fact, you can play through the game on the GamePad, without the TV being on.
The Wii U version of the game will include the summer 2012 expansion pack, and also more exclusive content, including Magic Mayhem, a new four-player party mode. We will here more about the mode down the road. The regular campaign will feature support for up to three players locally or online, and those players can use the GamePad or the Wii Remote (NES Style).
While I haven't played Trine 2 yet (it's available on a variety of platforms already), I played a ton of the original. At this point, I'm going to try to hold off to play the Wii U version, which appears to be the definitive version of the game, with all the content of the other versions and then some.
