For all you Medabots fans, click here. For everyone else, keep looking forward to Custom Robo.

After spending quite a bit of time with Custom Robo, playing a game as simple as Medabots was a little hard to do.

The demo available was really limited, but it gave a good idea of what the main game will be like. You pick a Medabot, like a slow, powerful tank or a speedy runner, and then go one-on-one with another in a duel to the death. You can attack with B, jump with A, block with L, and do a special evade with R. If you have time to run away from your foe, you can charge up a meter with A+X, and when said meter is filled, you can unleash a devastating special move that will likely kill your opponent in one shot.

You can change which attack your bot can perform by moving the C-Stick. Attacks range from single-shot guns to high-power lasers and even some hand-to-hand weapons for the faster Medabots. This sounds nice, but the weapons really don't vary all that much between the three you have to choose from. As far as the special moves go, the meter you need to charge to use them takes a ridiculous amount of time to fill, and considering that you're vulnerable to attack while you are doing this, it's likely you'll be downed before you can even get it half charged.

As far as how the game looks, it's not all that great. The game looks too simple (almost N64-ish, if not for the weapon effects), and although it's not the type of game that will blow people away with graphics, it's going to be hard to not compare this game to Nintendo's Custom Robo, which looks better by leaps and bounds. There's just nothing visually appealing to the game at all, which isn't to say that it looks bad... it's just not good.

It appears that the only people that would be interested in this game would be the fans of the Medabots product line, and that's just fine. The game is clearly targeted toward them. However, anyone else who might be interested in this type of game will probably just stick to Custom Robo, since there's no contest as to which game is turning out better across the board.
