While DS first person shooters aren't my bag, this one brings some interesting uses of the touch screen with some nice controls to boot.

I've never been sold on the idea of first person shooters on DS; their twitchy nature doesn't seem like a good fit when you're huddled over two small screens with a stylus in one hand and the other hand hoping to balance the system while you move your character around. From my experience with the genre on DS, Call of Duty: World at War seems to be a top-of-the-line DS first person shooter.

The controls aren't too different from what you'd expect from the series on DS as the stylus directs your fire and, depending on your hand preference, either the d-pad or the four buttons direct your character's movement. The game makes good use of the touch screen although it occasionally clutters it.

Nearly everything in the game is controlled on the touch screen and almost no space on the screen is wasted. It controls everything from gun selection to grenades and from zooming in to jumping over crates. Through my play experience, I found it to be too cluttered, especially when you're under pressure in a gun fight. When you're being strategic and taking your time it seems to be fine, but once you are engaged in a fire fight, it becomes too confusing.

I can't comment on the anticipated online multiplayer as I didn't get to see it in action, but I did complete the first mission of the American campaign and, despite my worries about touch screen overload, the game is still very fun but I don't know how it will hold up as the game gets more ferocious in the later levels.
