Harvest Moon: The Land of Origin will be the first original 3DS game in the series.

According to the latest issue of Famitsu, Marvelous Entertainment is working on a new Harvest Moon title. Harvest Moon: The Land of Origin will be the first game in the series developed solely for the Nintendo 3DS.

Unlike the upcoming 3DS port of Harvest Moon: Tale of Two Towns, The Land of Origin makes use of the system’s hardware by featuring fully polygonal graphics, as opposed to the series’ other handheld outings that  used a mixture of polygonal and 2D visuals.

Another first for the series is the game’s emphasis on customization. While the usual farming mechanics will still be in place, players will also have the option to create their own character, as well as customize their home and farm.

Harvest Moon: The Land of Origin will be released in Japan in early 2012, with other regions likely to follow.
